  • Standard opaque sunroof shade
  • Standard Intellibeam headlights
  • Optional twin-turbocharged V-6 engine
  • Optional front passenger memory settings
  • Optional Automatic Parking Assist
  • Optional rear-seat entertainment system with twin screens

The 2014 Cadillac XTS is a full-size luxury sedan that shares a platform with the Buick LaCrosse and Chevrolet Impala. It is priced in the same neighborhood as the redesigned Cadillac CTS Sedan, but is larger inside and equipped with a bigger trunk. Key competitors include the Acura RLX, Chrysler 300, Hyundai Equus, Lexus ES, and Lincoln MKS.

Models and Features
Cadillac sells the 2014 XTS in a standard level of specification, and in three trim levels that the automaker calls \"collections.\" Standard equipment includes perforated leather seats, genuine wood trim, dual-zone automatic climate control system, and a premium sound system with HD Radio and satellite radio. A Cadillac User Experience touch-sensitive display screen and control panel is also standard, along with high-intensity discharge headlights, heated exterior mirrors with auto-dimming glass and exterior puddle lighting, adaptive remote engine starting, Magnetic Ride Control suspension, and 19-inch aluminum wheels.

The XTS Luxury Collection is equipped with Intellibeam automatic headlight control, illuminated door handles, rain-sensing wipers, and a polished wheel finish. Inside, the Luxury Collection includes accent lighting, LED spotlights, heated front and rear seats, ventilated front seats, and a heated steering wheel.

The XTS Premium Collection includes a surround-sound audio system with 14 speakers, triple-zone automatic climate control, color reconfigurable 12.3-inch gauge cluster, color head-up display, and an adaptive forward-lighting system.

The top trim level is known as the XTS Platinum Collection. A premium grille treatment and 20-inch aluminum wheels identify this model from the outside, while the cabin gets a fully-wrapped leather interior, premium perforated leather seats, microfiber suede headliner, premium wood trim, manual side window sunshades, and a power rear window sunshade.

Options and Packages
Cadillac allows buyers to upgrade each version of the XTS with elements of the next \"collection\" up the ladder, though availability for many extras is limited to the more expensive Premium and Platinum variants. One new option for 2014 is an Automatic Parking Assist system that automatically steers the car into a parallel parking space while the driver operates the pedals and the transmission.

Under the Hood
A 3.6-liter V-6 engine is standard for all versions of the 2014 XTS. It makes 304 horsepower and 264 lb.-ft. of torque, is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission with TapShift manual control, and features a capless fuel tank filler. An all-wheel-drive (AWD) system with torque-vectoring technology is optional with this engine.

For 2014, the XTS can be equipped with an optional twin-turbocharged, 3.6-liter V-6 engine generating 410 horsepower and 369 lb.-ft. of torque, the latter available between 1,900 rpm and 5,600 rpm. Models with the optional twin-turbo V-6 wear a unique grille design.

Fuel Economy
As this overview is written, the EPA has not published official 2014 XTS fuel-economy ratings.

Safety Ratings and Technology

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gives the 2014 Cadillac XTS an overall crash-test rating of 5 (out of 5) stars. As of this writing, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has not rated the 2014 XTS.

The XTS is equipped with 10 standard air bags, as well as one free year of OnStar subscription service including Automatic Crash Notification. Owners can opt in to an OnStar FamilyLink service that provides vehicle location alerts or lets someone remotely check the car's location. Safety-related options include rain-sensing wipers, Intellibeam headlights, adaptive forward-lighting system, and a reversing camera.

Cadillac also offers two option packages that are packed with safety technology. The Driver Awareness package adds a lane-departure warning system, side blind-zone alert, rear cross-traffic alert, forward-collision alert, and a Safety Alert Seat that vibrates to get the driver's attention. The Driver Assist package adds these features plus adaptive cruise control, Front Automatic Brake, Rear Automatic Brake, and Automatic Collision Preparation. Cadillac says that a full-speed adaptive cruise control system is also available for the 2014 XTS.
