The 2009 Cadillac SRX crossover is carryover from 2008. Its last major revision was in 2007. But that doesn't mean the midsize SRX is devoid of new features. Adaptive remote start is standard this year, and a theater package with DVD navigation and rear-seat entertainment system is available. SRX continues to offer two powerful engines: a 3.6-liter V-6 and 4.6-liter Northstar V-8. In addition, the available UltraView sunroof is the largest sunroof in the segment, according to Cadillac. First introduced in 2004, the midsize SRX was Cadillac's first crossover sport utility model. The 2009 SRX can seat up to 7 passengers when equipped with the optional third-row seat. It's built on the same platform as the Cadillac CTS sedan, so the SRX has a low center of gravity and improved ride and handling compared to larger, truck-based SUVs, Cadillac says.
Standard on every 2009 Cadillac is a 5-year/100,000-mile transferable powertrain limited warranty with no deductible, 24/7 roadside assistance and courtesy transportation. A 6-year warranty against rust is also standard, and has no mileage restrictions.
The 2009 Cadillac SRX is available with V-6 and V-8 power. Rear-wheel drive (RWD) is standard, while all-wheel drive (AWD) is available on both 6- and 8-cylinder models. Standard equipment on the V-6 includes a power rear liftgate; 17-inch alloy wheels; driver information center; leather front bucket seats; split-folding adjustable leather second-row seats; and dual-zone climate control. V-6 optional packages include the V-6 Luxury and Premium Luxury Collection, and Theater packages. The V-8 standard equipment list includes 18-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, wood trim accents, and Xenon headlights. V-8 options include 20-inch wheels, Theater package and Ultra Luxury Collection packages.
Options on the SRX include an UltraView sunroof that extends to provide 5.6 sq. ft. of space above the first and second rows and integrates a retractable power shade. The optional third-row seat configuration allows for 7-passenger seating. The available third-row seat (with cupholders) power folds into the floor with a single touch of a button.
An available SRX Sport package includes front and rear sport fascias, new body-color grille featuring V-Series-style mesh backing, dual polished 4-inch exhaust tips, 6-speed automatic transmission with Driver Shift control, and optional 20-inch Sport wheels with performance tires on V-8 models. The Sport package also has AWD, and a limited-slip differential-the first time the division is offering this in an AWD model.
Two engine combinations are available in the 2009 Cadillac SRX: a 3.6-liter V-6 engine with variable valve timing (VVT) that delivers 255 hp at 6500 rpm and 254 lb.-ft. of torque at 2800 rpm, and a 4.6-liter, Northstar V-8 engine with VVT producing 320 hp at 6400 rpm and 315 lb.-ft. of torque at 4400 rpm. The V-6 engine is mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission with electronically controlled shifts and Driver Shift Control (clutchless manual operation) while the V-8 engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Electronic stability and traction control are standard, while Magnetic Ride Control (which Cadillac pioneered in 2003), is optional on V-8 models. Fuel economy for the 2WD V-6 engine is EPA-estimated at 15 mpg city/23 mpg highway and 14 mpg city/22 mpg highway for the AWD. For the V-8 engine, the 2WD and AWD EPA estimates are 13 mpg city/20 mpg highway, unchanged from last year.
The 2009 Cadillac SRX safety features include standard advanced dual-stage frontal air bags with passenger-sensing system; side-impact air bags for both driver and right-front passenger; head curtain side air bags for the front and rear seating rows; tire-pressure monitor; and ultrasonic rear parking assist. SRX models with OnStar have Turn-by-Turn Navigation-which is OnStar's fully-integrated GPS navigation, and automatic crash notification. New for 2009 is Turn-by-Turn eNav, a feature that allows MapQuest directions to be sent directly to the vehicle. Other features include power 4-wheel vented disc brakes with anti-lock braking system; dynamic rear proportioning and panic brake assist; and electronic stability control that controls various subsystems, including braking, suspension, steering, traction control and powertrain control. Magnetic Ride Control is optional on V-8 SRX models.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the 2009 Cadillac SRX receives a 4-star rating for driver and front passenger in frontal crash testing, and a 5-star rating for side-impact crash tests. In NHTSA rollover tests, the SRX receives a 3-star rating for 2WD and a 4-star rating for the AWD configuration.
The 2009 Cadillac SRX includes as standard a CD stereo and premium Bose 8-speaker sound system. Optional is a Bose 5.1 Digital Surround system. A \"theater\" package is also available, consisting of the Bose 5.1 Digital Surround, DVD navigation and rear-seat DVD entertainment systems. The standard ultrasonic rear parking assist feature in 2009 SRX models employs LED lights and sounds to warn of people or objects that are directly behind the vehicle. SRX models equipped with OnStar feature Turn-by-Turn Navigation, which is a fully integrated GPS navigation system that allows drivers to receive step-by-step navigation through a live OnStar adviser. Also new this year is Turn-by-Turn's eNav, which can send MapQuest directions to the vehicle.
