The 2014 Buick LaCrosse is a midsize premium sedan with a compact-size trunk. It straddles the boundary between mainstream and luxury cars, competing against entries such as the Acura TL, Chrysler 300, Hyundai Genesis, Lexus ES, Lincoln MKZ, and Volkswagen CC.

Models and Features
The 2014 Buick LaCrosse is offered in a standard level of specification with four stair-step option packages that it calls trim levels. Those packages are called Leather, Premium I, Premium II, and Touring.

Standard equipment includes OnStar with a 6-month subscription to service, dual-zone automatic climate control with new capacitive touch controls, heated exterior mirrors, auto-dimming interior mirror, universal garage door opener, remote engine starting, 4-way power lumbar adjustment for the driver, and an IntelliLink 8-inch color touch-screen radio with Bluetooth, USB port, auxiliary audio input jack, and satellite radio.

Options and Packages
The LaCrosse with the Leather package adds leather upholstery, heated front seats, memory for the driver's settings, and an 8-way power front passenger's seat. Additionally, this trim level is equipped with a reversing camera, rear park-assist sensors, integrated turn signal indicators for the exterior mirrors, auto-dimming driver's side mirror, exterior ground illumination, and passive entry with push-button start.

Once the Leather package has been added to the LaCrosse, buyers can choose the Premium 1 package for its upgraded perforated leather, ventilated front seats, rear window sunshade, premium surround-sound audio system, and heated steering wheel, or a Premium II package, which includes a navigation system and 20-inch aluminum wheels.

The Touring package is offered only for LaCrosse models equipped with a V-6 engine and front-wheel drive. It contains a HiPer Strut front suspension and a real-time damping suspension with Sport Mode Selectivity, components designed to make the car more engaging to drive.

For 2014, a new Ultra Luxury Interior package is available. It adds Sangria-colored semi-aniline leather seats and an extended leather treatment, authentic Shadow Tamo Ash wood trim, Ebony accents, and synthetic suede headliner and pillar covers.

Under the Hood
The 2014 LaCrosse is equipped with a standard eAssist mild hybrid powertrain, which pairs a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine with an electric assist motor and a small lithium-ion battery pack. Combined, these components generate 182 horsepower at 6,700 rpm and 172 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,900 rpm. This powertrain gives the LaCrosse a Partial Zero Emission Vehicle (PZEV) rating in certain regions of the country. A 6-speed automatic transmission drives the Buick's front wheels.

A 3.6-liter V-6 engine is available on the 2014 LaCrosse, generating 304 horsepower at 6,800 rpm and 264 lb.-ft. of torque at 5,300 rpm. A 6-speed automatic transmission is standard.

Buick offers an optional all-wheel-drive (AWD) system for LaCrosse models with the Leather or Premium I packages. Equipped with an electronic limited-slip differential, this AWD system distributes torque based on vehicle speed, throttle position, and wheel slip.

Fuel Economy
As this overview is written, the EPA offers no estimates for the 2014 LaCrosse's fuel economy. Every 2014 LaCrosse is equipped with lower front active grille shutters designed to reduce aerodynamic drag on the highway and to improve fuel economy.

Safety Ratings and Technology
As this overview is written, neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has rated the 2014 LaCrosse for crash protection.

For 2014, the LaCrosse is offered with two new safety-related option packages. The Driver Confidence 1 package includes forward-collision alert, lane-departure warning, Lane Change Alert, side blind-zone alert, rear cross-traffic alert, bi-xenon articulating headlights, fog lights, and a head-up display. The Driver Confidence 2 package adds Collision Preparation with Collision Mitigation Braking, full-speed-range adaptive cruise control, and a Safety Alert Seat.

The new LaCrosse is also available with a new next-generation IntelliLink infotainment system with natural voice recognition, 8-inch color gesture recognition touch screen, Pandora Internet radio, and a new standard sound system. A premium surround-sound audio system is optional, as well as a reconfigurable gauge cluster display.
