Introduction
The 2015 Buick Encore is a compact crossover SUV with upscale design and features. Competitors include vehicles such as the Audi Q3, BMW X1, Infiniti QX50, and Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class.

Models and Features
Buick offers the 2015 Encore with standard equipment and a choice between three upgraded equipment groups named Convenience, Leather, and Premium.

Choose the Convenience group for dual-zone automatic climate control, auto-dimming rearview mirror, 120-volt power outlet for rear-seat passengers to use, remote engine starting, and a blind-spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert. Front fog lights are included with Convenience equipment, too.

The Leather group includes leather seats plus memory for the driver's settings, power front passenger's seat, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel. The Premium group installs a premium audio system, cargo mat, cargo net, rain-sensing wipers, front and rear park-assist sensors, forward-collision warning system, and a lane-departure warning system.

Under the Hood
Every 2015 Encore is equipped with a turbocharged, 1.4-liter 4-cylinder engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission with Driver Shift Control. The engine makes 138 horsepower and 148 lb.-ft. of torque, the latter starting at just 1,850 rpm. Front-wheel drive is standard with all-wheel drive (AWD) optional.

Fuel Economy
In standard format, the 2015 Encore is rated to get 25 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. Add the optional AWD system and the crossover SUV is rated to return 23 mpg city/30 mpg highway.

Safety and Technology
OnStar service is standard for the 2015 Encore, and Automatic Crash Response, Crisis Assist, roadside assistance, and FamilyLink location monitoring are among its many features. Service is free for the first 6 months of ownership, and is thereafter available via subscription.

New for 2015, OnStar offers 4G LTE Wi-Fi connectivity, turning the Encore into a rolling Internet hotspot. This service is free for 3 months or until 3GB of data is used, whichever comes first. As with the standard suite of OnStar services, the Wi-Fi connection is thereafter offered as a subscription.

Standard equipment includes Buick IntelliLink technology, accessed through a 7-in. color touch screen. Bluetooth, satellite radio, an auxiliary audio input jack, and a reversing camera are included, and IntelliLink can be upgraded with navigation.

Buick includes its side blind-zone alert and rear cross-traffic alert systems as standard on all versions of the 2015 Encore except the base model. For front and rear park-assist sensors, forward-collision alert, and lane-departure warning, buyers must choose the Encore Premium model.

In 1903, founder David Dunbar Buick incorporated his growing shop into the Buick Motor Company. The company released the Model B in 1904. That first car was a vehicle that would carry the automaker through the end of its first decade. By 1915, Buick had changed direction, and successfully moved upscale as a luxury brand. As market demands called for a different type of product near end of the century, the automaker introduced its first sport utility crossover, called the Rendezvous, in 2001. Today's lineup includes the Lacrosse, the all-new European-based Regal, and the 8-passenger Enclave sport utility.
