2013 BMW Model Overview

BMW has a busy year ahead as it introduces the new 2013 X1 crossover SUV, launches the new 6 Series Gran Coupe, debuts new M5 and M6 models, and expands the 3 Series lineup. Both the 5 Series Gran Turismo and X6 are updated for 2013, the popular X3 crossover SUV gets a new turbocharged 4-cylinder engine for 2013, and a new performance-oriented version of the 1 Series is available this year.

2013 BMW 1 Series

The 2013 BMW 1 Series is offered in coupe or convertible body styles, in 128i, 135i, and new 135is model series. The 2013 BMW 135is adds power, torque, performance-tuned mechanicals, and unique design details.

What's New

  • 135is includes 320-horsepower, turbocharged, 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine, manual or Double Clutch Transmission (DCT) automated manual gearbox, sport-tuned traction and stability control, sport suspension, performance exhaust, and an upgraded rear differential
  • 135is is equipped with sport seats, blue-stitched black leather upholstery, stainless steel pedals, M Sport steering wheel, unique aluminum wheels, and blacked-out exterior trim

2013 BMW 3 Series Coupe and 3 Series Convertible

The BMW 3 Series Coupe and 3 Series Convertible are to be replaced by a new 4 Series model, but the timing is uncertain. As this guide is written, no official announcements have been made about the existing 3 Series Coupe and Convertible models, or about the upcoming 4 Series.

2013 BMW 3 Series Sedan and Wagon

Last year, the redesigned BMW 3 Series Sedan debuted. This year, it is joined by a new station wagon body style, an ActiveHybrid version of the sedan, and an optional all-wheel-drive system. A new M Sport trim line is also available on the 328i and 335i model series.

2013 BMW 5 Series

The 2013 BMW 5 Series is a midsize luxury sport sedan offered in 528i, 535i, 550i, and ActiveHybrid 5 model series. BMW's xDrive all-wheel-drive system is optional for 528i and 535i models. There are few changes in the 5 Series for 2013.

  • Standard power trunk opener with available hands-free opening capability
  • Optional 1,200-watt premium audio system with 16 speakers

2013 BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo

The BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo is a 5-door hatchback version of the 5 Series equipped with a taller ride height, added cargo capacity and flexibility, and available xDrive all-wheel drive. It is sold as the 535i GT or the 550i GT, and for 2013 this model gains several new fuel-efficiency and safety features.

2013 BMW 6 Series

The 2013 BMW 6 Series is available in 2-door coupe, 4-door coupe, or 2-door convertible body styles. The 4-door is called the Gran Coupe, and is new for 2013. Buyers select between the 640i or the 650i models, the latter offered with optional xDrive all-wheel drive. Aside from the debut of the Gran Coupe, few changes are made for 2013.

2013 BMW 7 Series

BMW's flagship sedan, the 2013 7 Series, is dramatically updated and upgraded this year, offering new powertrain choices, greater availability of xDrive all-wheel drive, new features and technology, and revised exterior styling. Five different model series are available, on regular- or extended-length wheelbases.

  • New 315-horsepower, turbocharged, 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine in 740i models
  • Turbocharged, 4.4-liter V-8 engine in 750i models gains variable valve timing

2013 BMW M3

The BMW M3 is a performance-tuned version of the BMW 3 Series Coupe and Convertible, equipped with a V-8 engine. As this buyer's guide is written, BMW has made no announcements about the 2013 M3, or any potential successor.

2013 BMW M5

The 2013 BMW M5 is a performance-tuned version of the 5 Series Sedan. After a short hiatus, the M5 returns for 2013, redesigned and equipped with a new turbocharged, 4.4-liter V-8 engine that is more powerful and more fuel-efficient than the former V-10 power plant.

2013 BMW M6

The 2013 BMW M6 is a performance-tuned version of the 6 Series Coupe and Convertible. Redesigned after a short hiatus, the latest M6 is equipped with a more powerful and fuel-efficient turbocharged V-8 engine in place of the previous M6 model's V-10 engine.

2013 BMW X1

The 2013 BMW X1 is a new subcompact crossover SUV offered with rear-wheel drive (sDrive) or all-wheel drive (xDrive). Three versions are offered: X1 sDrive28i, X1 xDrive28i, and X1 xDrive35i. In base trim, the X1 is the lowest-priced new BMW for sale in America, excluding motorcycles.

2013 BMW X5

The 2013 BMW X5 is a midsize 5- or 7-passenger crossover SUV offered with a choice of a turbocharged 6-cylinder engine (xDrive35i), 6-cylinder turbo-diesel engine (xDrive35d), turbocharged V-8 engine (xDrive50i), or a more powerful performance-tuned variant called the X5 M. There are few changes for 2013.

2013 BMW X6

Take one BMW X5, restyle it with a fastback 5-door body, and the BMW X6 is the result, a model the automaker calls a Sport Activity Coupe. Three versions are offered, all equipped with standard xDrive all-wheel drive: xDrive35i, xDrive50i, and X6 M.
