The Frankfurt Motor Show represented the world debut of the Audi TT concept car in 1995. The design, both inside and out, was daring, pioneering and very unique. Three years later, in autumn 1998, the Audi TT coupe was introduced as a production vehicle. It was followed a year later by a topless Roadster. The all-new-for-2008, second-generation TT coupe and Roadster utilized Audi Space Frame (ASF) technology-like the flagship A8 model-combining aluminum and steel in the rigid chassis and resulting in greatly improved weight distribution and handling, according to the manufacturer. For 2009, Audi introduces the all-new TTS coupe and Roadster, their highest-performing TT models ever, according to the company, featuring a new 2.0-liter TFSI engine that delivers 265 horsepower and meets California's ultra-low-emission vehicle II standards (ULEV-II). Other changes for 2009 include the 2.0T S tronic transmission now available with quattro all-wheel drive (AWD), new standard equipment, and some option changes.

Model Lineup
The 2009 Audi TT coupe and Roadster are available in three trim levels (Premium, Premium Plus and Prestige), with two different engine choices (2.0T and 3.2) and drivelines (front-wheel drive and quattro AWD). The TT 2.0T is offered with a turbocharged 4-cylinder powerplant, front-wheel drive, and the \"S tronic\" automatic transmission. The TT 2.0T Premium adds standard equipment, but retains the identical engine and transmission. The TT 3.2 quattro is offered with a 6-cylinder engine, all-wheel drive, and a choice of 6-speed manual or \"S tronic\" automatic transmission. New standard equipment for 2009 includes an auxiliary audio input, Sirius satellite radio, Hill Hold Assist, multi-function steering wheel and a manual convertible top on the TT 2.0 Roadster (a power-actuated top is optional). New 18-inch chrome wheels and 18-inch, bi-color 10-spoke wheels are available. Meteor Gray pearl effect exterior paint has been added to the options list. A new black Baseball Optic seat is optional on coupe models, with a Magma red Nappa leather interior optional for the roadster. Navigation is only available on Prestige models.

The all-new TTS, available in both coupe and Roadster versions, is powered by the new 2.0 TFSI engine. The new models feature Xenon-plus headlights with LED daytime running lights, a front grille with larger front air intakes, a Platinum Gray grille with chrome optic finish, extended rocker panels, and aluminum optic exterior mirrors. The rear bumper features a gray-colored diffuser trim, plus two sets of twin tailpipes protruding from the left and right of the vehicle's tail. TTS-specific 18-inch wheels with summer performance tires are standard, with unique 19-inch quattro wheels available as an option. While the TTS coupe features a traditional steel roof, the TTS Roadster has an electro-hydraulically operated soft top that is able to open and close in 12 seconds, according to Audi. The interior of the TTS features standard racing-inspired leather/Alcantara deep-set sport seats with heating and height adjustment; die-cast magnesium, flat-bottomed, leather-wrapped steering wheel with multi-function controls; specific TTS instrument cluster; redesigned S tronic shift knob; and aluminum optic shift paddles and driver information center with a digital lap timer. Optional two-tone Silk Nappa leather seats are available. While the TTS Roadster is strictly a 2-seater, the TTS coupe version offers split-folding rear seats to more than double luggage capacity.

The 2009 Audi TT 2.0T models feature a turbocharged, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine rated at 200 hp at 5100-6000 rpm and 207 lb.-ft. of torque at 1800-5000 rpm. The standard S tronic (formerly DSG) automatic transmission is a sophisticated 6-speed dual-clutch gearbox with electro-hydraulic control driving only the front wheels. EPA fuel-economy estimates are 23 mpg city/31 mpg highway for the coupe, and 22 mpg city/30 mpg highway for the Roadster. Audi TT 3.2 models feature a direct-injection, 3.2-liter V-6 engine rated at 250 hp at 6300 rpm and 236 lb.-ft. of torque at 2500-3000 rpm. The 3.2 is available with a 6-speed manual transmission (the EPA estimates 17 mpg city/25 mpg highway for both coupe and Roadster), or the S tronic transmission (EPA estimates of 18 mpg city/24 mpg highway). Audi's AWD quattro system is standard on both V-6 models. The standard powertrain warranty for the 2009 Audi TT is 4 years/50,000 miles and includes roadside assistance for the first 4 years of ownership.

Audi thoroughly massaged the 2.0-liter powerplant found in the standard TT coupe and Roadster for duty in the new TTS. Now rated at 265 hp at 6000 rpm, and with 258 lb.-ft. of torque at 2500-5000 rpm, it received extensive re-engineering and strengthening, according to Audi. The engine block, cylinder head, pistons and connecting rods were all upgraded. The turbocharger was modified to provide up to 1.2 bar of boost into the engine, while the intercooler was optimized to lower compressed air temperature. The intake and exhaust systems were honed to improve airflow and improve the exhaust note. According to Audi, the new TTS coupe achieves 60 mph in just 4.9 seconds, while the TTS Roadster takes 5.1 seconds. With top speed electronically limited to 155 mph, TTS models also meet California's ultra-low-emission vehicle II standards (ULEV II).

The 2009 Audi TTS has new lightweight aluminum suspension components and modified suspension mounts. The front suspension design on the Audi TTS is MacPherson strut with lower triangle wishbones. The rear suspension is a 4-link design, manufactured from high-strength grades of steel. Working in conjunction with the suspension components is an enhanced Audi magnetic ride, a technically-advanced adaptive suspension system. The fluid inside each shock damper is sensitive to magnetic currents. Voltage changes alter the physical characteristics of the fluid, rapidly changing the suspension settings. The driver is able to choose between two modes of operation: \"Normal\" mode offers a comfortable, well-balanced ride, while \"Sport\" lowers the vehicle by nearly one-half inch and sets the suspension for a firm and controlled ride, Audi says.

The braking system on the 2009 TTS is also designed for high performance. Large disc brakes with an anti-lock system (ABS) are standard on all four corners with the TTS emblem emblazoned on the black-painted calipers. Unique to the TTS, the ESP stabilization program has a special setting to enable controlled drifting. Standard TTS wheels are 18-inch cast aluminum with 245/40-size tires, with 19-inch aluminum wheels optional.

Standard safety equipment on the 2009 Audi TT and TTS coupe and Roadster includes dual-stage front air bags, side air bags, tire-pressure-monitoring system, electronic stabilization program (ESP), and anti-lock brakes. The rear seats on the coupe feature the Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) system to assist with proper infant- and child-seat installation. On the Roadster, fixed roll hoops located behind the driver and passenger offer additional protection in the event of a vehicle rollover.
