Exterior Features
The Audi S5 is sold in coupe and convertible (Cabriolet) body styles with Premium Plus and Prestige trim. The RS 5 is offered only in coupe format in a single level of specification.

The S5 has 18-inch aluminum wheels, S-line detailing, LED running lights, and LED taillights. The RS 5 adds unique front and rear styling, matte aluminum trim, flared fenders, chrome oval exhaust outlets routed through  the rear bumper, 19-inch aluminum wheels, and an electric rear spoiler.

Interior Features
Audi S5 models have 12-way power sport seats in leather and Alcantara, a flat-bottomed sport steering wheel, and brushed aluminum trim. The RS 5 adds premium Nappa leather, a lap timer, carbon fiber trim, and aluminum pedals.

Optional Features
Optional on both the S5 and the RS 5 are a Bang & Olufsen audio system, Audi MMI Navigation Plus with Audi Connect service, Driver Assist package, and upgraded wheels. An additional option on S5 models is an adaptive damping suspension and rear sports differential.

Under the Hood
Audi S5 models are equipped with a 333-horsepower, supercharged, 3.0-liter V-6 engine. A 6-speed manual gearbox distributes power through Audi's Quattro all-wheel-drive system. A 7-speed S-tronic automated manual transmission is optional on the coupe and standard on the S5 Cabriolet.

The new Audi RS 5 has a 450-horsepower, 4.2-liter V-8 engine generating 317 lb.-ft. of torque. The V-8 breathes through a sport exhaust system, and is paired with a 7-speed S-tronic automated manual gearbox with launch control, a new self-locking crown-gear center differential, and a rear sport differential with torque vectoring. According to Audi, acceleration to 60 mph takes 4.5 seconds, and the RS 5 can achieve a 174-mph top speed.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 Audi S5 and RS 5 models are:
  • S5 with manual transmission: 17/26/20 mpg (city/highway/combined)
  • S5 coupe S-tronic: 18/28/21 mpg
  • S5 Cabriolet S-tronic: 18/26/21 mpg
  • RS 5: 16/23/18 mpg

Both the Audi S5 and RS 5 are equipped with frontal- and side-impact air bags for front-seat occupants, including knee air bags. Side curtain air bags are included on coupes only. Additionally, Audi installs a set of 4-wheel ventilated-disc brakes with brake assist (includes 8-piston calipers on RS 5 models), traction control, and stability control (with Sport mode on RS 5). Options include a reversing camera, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring system. Carbon ceramic brakes are available for the RS 5.

Neither the National Highway Traffic System Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) had performed crash tests on the 2013 Audi S5 when this overview was written.
