The S5 is Audi's \"muscle car\": a high-performance variant of the Audi A5, available as either a coupe or a convertible. They share a platform and feature similar trim levels, but otherwise they are quite unalike. The coupe and the Cabriolet (as Audi calls the convertible version) feature entirely different engines and transmission systems and noticeably different body styling.

The base trim of the 2011 Audi S5 features 19-inch wheels with performance tires, leather upholstery, a full menu of power accessories (including 8-way adjustable front seats), Xenon headlights, tri-zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth connectivity, and a 10-speaker sound system (8 speakers on the Cabriolet). The Cabriolet employs a power soft top, and the coupe features a sunroof. A navigation system is optional. The S5 Prestige trim adds various upgrades, and many option packages are available. These may include a sport rear differential, ventilated front seats, upgraded upholstery, and a Titanium Sport package that gives the car an overall darker look. The rear seats fold down to add cargo space to the trunk, which measures 12 cubic feet in the coupe and 10.2 cubic feet in the Cabriolet, according to the manufacturer.

The 2011 Audi S5 coupe's power plant consists of a 354-horsepower, 4.2-liter V-8 engine that, according to the EPA, delivers 14 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway with the standard 6-speed manual transmission, and 16/24 with the optional 6-speed automatic transmission with manual controls. The Audi S5 Cabriolet's power comes from a 333-horsepower, 3.0-liter, supercharged V-6 engine that delivers 17 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. It works with a 7-speed automated manual transmission. Both the coupe and the Cabriolet employ Audi's Quattro all-wheel drive.

Standard safety features on the 2011 Audi S5 include anti-lock disc brakes, stability control, traction control, and front side air bags. The coupe has side curtain air bags, and the convertible has an active roll bar behind the seats.

Starting MSRP for the 2011 Audi S5 was $53,650.
