The 2014 Audi A6 is a midsize luxury sedan offered with a variety of powertrains. It competes against the Acura RLX, BMW 5 Series, Cadillac CTS, Hyundai Genesis, Infiniti Q70, Jaguar XF, Lexus GS, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, and Volvo S80.

Models and Features
Audi sells the 2014 A6 in Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige trim levels. Furthermore, the A6 can be equipped with a choice between three engines including a turbocharged 4-cylinder (2.0T), turbo-diesel 6-cylinder (3.0 TDI), and a supercharged 6-cylinder (3.0T). Quattro all-wheel drive is optional for the A6 2.0T and standard for the 3.0 TDI and 3.0T models.

Only the A6 2.0T is equipped with Premium trim as standard equipment. It includes wood interior inlays, leather seats, heated front seats with 8-way power adjustment and memory for the driver's settings, 3-zone automatic climate control, power sunroof, 10-speaker audio system with satellite radio and iPod control, Bluetooth connectivity, and a universal garage door opener. The 2.0T Premium is also equipped with heated exterior mirrors, heated washer nozzles, LED side mirror turn signal indicators, LED taillights, and 17-inch aluminum wheels.

Optional for the A6 2.0T and standard for the 3.0 TDI and 3.0T models, Premium Plus trim includes Xenon Plus headlights, LED running lights, Parking System Plus front and rear park-assist sensors, a reversing camera, and 18-inch aluminum wheels. Inside, the Premium Plus trim adds a larger color driver information system, Audi MMI Navigation Plus with voice control, Audi MMI Touch handwriting-recognition technology, Audi Advanced Key passive entry, HD Radio, Bluetooth streaming audio, 4-year subscription to real-time traffic reporting, and a 6-month trial subscription to Audi Connect services.

Prestige trim is reserved for the 3.0 TDI and 3.0T models. It includes sporty S-Line exterior trim, adaptive headlights, Audi Side Assist blind-spot detection, Pre-Sense Rear safety technology, and power-folding exterior mirrors. The cabin is equipped with perforated leather, 4-zone climate control, 12-way power front seats with ventilation, and a premium 14-speaker surround-sound audio system.

Options and Packages
All 2014 Audi A6 models are offered with metallic paint, a choice of interior trims, and a selection of aluminum wheel sizes and designs. Additionally, buyers can opt for rear-seat side-impact air bags, heated rear seats, manual rear side window shades, a power rear window shade, and a black cloth headliner.

In addition to Quattro, the 2.0T Premium can be upgraded with a Style package (Xenon Plus headlights, LED running lights, 18-inch wheels), Audi Side Assist, Pre-Sense Rear, and power-folding side mirrors.

A6 models with Premium Plus trim can be fitted with a Sport package (19- or 20-inch wheels, sport suspension, 3-spoke sport steering wheel with shift paddles) and a 14-speaker premium surround-sound audio system. Audi Side Assist, Pre-Sense Rear, and power-folding side mirrors are also offered for this version of the A6.

The A6 Prestige is exclusively available with full LED headlights, a Bang & Olufsen advanced audio system, Black Optic package (20-inch \"Rotor-style\" wheels, summer performance tires, black grille, body-color mirrors), Innovation package (Night Vision Assistant with Pedestrian Detection, head-up display), and a Driver Assistance package (adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go capability and front distance sensor, Audi Lane Assist, Audi Pre-Sense Plus, Top View and Corner View camera). Additionally, the Prestige trim level can be equipped with a Sport package.

Under the Hood
A turbocharged, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine is installed in the A6 2.0T model, rated to make 220 horsepower from 4,450 rpm to 6,000 rpm and 258 lb.-ft. of torque from 1,500 rpm to 4,300 rpm. It powers the front wheels through a continuously variable transmission (CVT), and can be optioned with Quattro and an 8-speed automatic transmission. Acceleration to 60 mph takes 7.4 seconds, according to Audi.

The new A6 3.0 TDI is equipped with a turbocharged, clean diesel V-6 engine generating 240 horsepower between 3,500 rpm and 3,750 rpm and 428 lb.-ft. of torque between 1,750 rpm and 2,250 rpm. Audi claims it will accelerate the car to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds while returning up to 38 mpg on the highway. It is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and Quattro.

The supercharged A6 3.0T has a 3.0-liter V-6 engine, 8-speed automatic transmission, and Quattro. It is rated to make 310 horsepower from 5,500 rpm to 6,500 rpm and 325 lb.-ft. of torque between 2,500 rpm and 4,900 rpm. Audi says it gets to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds.

Standard Audi Drive Select technology allows the driver to tailor powertrain calibration and other vehicle settings, as available, to one of four choices.

Fuel Economy
According to the EPA, the A6 2.0T is rated to get between 20 mpg in the city with Quattro and 33 mpg on the highway with front-wheel drive. The more powerful 3.0T model with standard Quattro is rated to get 18 mpg city/27 mpg highway, while the new clean diesel 3.0 TDI version is expected to return 24 mpg city/38 mpg highway.

Safety Ratings and Technology
As this overview is written, neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has performed crash tests on the 2014 A6.

Every A6 is equipped with 8 air bags and rain-sensing wipers. Premium Plus models add a reversing camera, and front and rear park-assist sensors. Prestige models are equipped with adaptive headlights. Audi Side Assist blind-spot monitoring and Pre-Sense Rear technology is standard for Prestige models, and optional for others. Prestige models can be optioned with Audi Lane Assist, Night Vision Assistant with Pedestrian Detection system, and a Top View and Corner View camera.
