Optional Features
The 2012 Audi A3 offers a variety of amenities that are optional alone or in packages. Features include an 8-way power driver's seat with 4-way lumbar adjustment; Bluetooth connectivity; Xenon headlights; LED running lights; steering-wheel shift paddles; aluminum interior trim; navigation system; Audi's proprietary dash-mounted Multi Media Interface; iPod interface; automatic wipers; rear-parking sensors; auto-dimming rearview mirror; Bose premium sound system; heated front seats; heated mirrors; heated windshield washer nozzles; and a panoramic sunroof.

Under the Hood
The 2012 Audi A3 is powered by a 2.0-liter gasoline or diesel engine rated at 200 horsepower (gas) and 140 horsepower (diesel) that deliver 207 and 240 lb.-ft. of torque, respectively. Front-wheel drive is standard, as is a 6-speed manual transmission. A 6-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission (known as S tronic) is available, and is standard with all-wheel drive. AWD isn't offered on the diesel version.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Audi A3 are:
- A3 with 2.0-liter gasoline engine and manual transmission: 21/30/24 mpg (city/highway/combined)
- A3 with 2.0-liter gasoline engine and S tronic transmission: 22/28/24 mpg
- A3 with 2.0-liter diesel engine: 30/42/34 mpg
Safety
Standard safety equipment on the 2012 Audi A3 includes stability control and a battery of air bags. Rear-seat side air bags are optional.

To date, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has not tested the 2012 Audi A3. In tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the A3 received a \"Good\" rating--the Institute's highest--for front-, side-, and rear-impact crash protection and roof strength, and was named a \"Top Safety Pick\" for 2012.
