Recall Roundup: Volkswagen Issues Two Recalls for Audi and VW Brand Vehicles

During the past week, Volkswagen Group issued recalls affecting a total of 8,436 vehicles. The largest of these involves 8,381 Audi vehicles from the 2008 and 2009 model years in which the air bags may be subject to corrosion. Details for each safety recall are below, in alphabetical order by car brand.

  • Number of vehicles affected: 8,381
  • Date of manufacture: Recall affects vehicles from the 2008 and 2009 model years
  • Issue: The air bag control units may corrode and fail. If the air bag control unit fails, the air bags may not deploy in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of occupant injury.
  • Remedy: Audi will notify owners, and dealers will replace the air bag control unit free of charge.
  • Timing: The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834.

2016 Volkswagen Passat
  • Number of vehicles affected: 55
  • Date of manufacture: October 31, 2015 to January 21, 2016
  • Issue: The fuel rail may detach from the cylinder head and result in a fuel leak. A fuel leak, in the presence of an ignition source, can result in a vehicle fire.
  • Remedy: Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will replace the cylinder heads free of charge.
  • Timing: The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-822-8987.
