Recall Roundup: Volkswagen Group, General Motors Issue Multiple Vehicle Recalls

During the past week, more than 151,000 light vehicles were recalled by their manufacturers—the vast majority produced by the VW Group. GM also issued two separate recalls for a handful of models, while Jaguar also issued one recall last week. Details for each vehicle recall are below, in alphabetical order by car brand.


2016 Chevrolet Colorado
2016 Chevrolet Malibu
2016 GMC Canyon
  • Number of vehicles affected: 1,579
  • Date of manufacture: January 9, 2016 to February 4, 2016
  • Issue: The driver frontal air bag may improperly inflate during second-stage deployment in the event of a high-speed crash.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver-side frontal air bag module free of charge.
  • Timing: The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, and GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782.

2016 Chevrolet Malibu
  • Number of vehicles affected: 3,137
  • Date of manufacture: February 16, 2016 to March 5, 2016
  • Issue: The two weld studs that mount the front and rear side-impact air bags may fracture and separate from the air bag during deployment. Fractured weld studs may allow the side air bag to move out of position during deployment, increasing the risk of injury.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the side air bag modules free of charge.
  • Timing: The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020.
  • Manufacturer recall number: 31820
  • NHTSA recall number: 16V151000
  • Number of vehicles affected: 6,938
  • Date of manufacture: May 16, 2012 to June 15, 2015
  • Issue: On vehicles equipped with 2.0-liter GTDi engines, the retaining bolt for the Front End Auxiliary Drive (FEAD) idler pulley on the engine may fail resulting in a loss of power steering assist.
  • Remedy: Jaguar will notify owners, and dealers will replace the FEAD pulley assembly free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin May 2, 2016. Owners may contact Jaguar customer service at 1-800-452-4827.

  • NHTSA recall number: 16V137000


2011-2016 Porsche Cayenne
  • Number of vehicles affected: 88,300
  • Date of manufacture: April 28, 2010 to January 11, 2016
  • Issue: The brake pedal pivot pin may be missing a circlip, allowing the pivot pin to move and the brake pedal to dislodge.
  • Remedy: Porsche will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the brake pedal assembly circlip, installing any missing circlips free of charge.
  • Timing: The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Porsche customer service at 1-800-767-7243.
  • Manufacturer recall number: AG02
  • NHTSA recall number: 16V169000


2015-2016 Volkswagen e-Golf
  • Number of vehicles affected: 5,561
  • Date of manufacture: May 21, 2014 to March 1, 2016
  • Issue: Oversensitive diagnostics for the high-voltage battery management system may falsely detect an electrical surge resulting in the vehicle's electric drive motor shutting down unexpectedly.
  • Remedy: Volkswagen has notified owners, and dealers will update the battery management software free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall began March 15, 2016. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298.
  • Manufacturer recall number: 93B4
  • NHTSA recall number: 16138000


2011-2016 Volkswagen Touareg
  • Number of vehicles affected: 46,700
  • Date of manufacture: None provided
  • Issue: The brake pedal pivot pin may be missing a circlip, allowing the pivot pin to move and the brake pedal to dislodge.
  • Remedy: Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the brake pedal assembly to verify the presence of the circlip and install any missing circlips free of charge.
  • Timing: The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298.
