Recall Roundup: Suzuki Needs to Service Air Bags in SX4, Grand Vitara

This past week, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a single recall for passenger vehicles. The recall affects the 2006-2011 Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV and the 2007-2011 Suzuki SX4 5-door hatchback and sedan models, and a total of 193,936 vehicles are heading back to dealers for repairs.

In the affected vehicles, the front passenger's seat occupant-detection system may fail, resulting in air bag deployment regardless of whether or not an adult or a child is seated there. To resolve the problem, dealers will replace the front-seat cushion assembly at no charge to the vehicle's owner.

Recall notifications will be issued to vehicle owners in October, followed by a second notification once parts become available. Vehicle owners with questions can contact Suzuki at 1-800-255-2550, referencing Suzuki recall campaign code "VD." The NHTSA recall campaign ID number is 13V405.

Owners should note that U.S. Suzuki distributors previously performed a special campaign to install countermeasure occupant classification system (OCS) sensor mats in certain vehicles. Grand Vitara and SX4 vehicles that received the OCS sensor mats during the special campaign are not included in this new recall.
