Recall Roundup: Nissan Recalls Murano SUV to Address Power Steering Hose

    During the past week, various automakers recalled a total of 65,706 light passenger vehicles. Most of the recalls are of vehicles from the 2017 model year, but the largest affects 56,766 Nissan Murano SUVs from the 2013 and 2014 model years.

    Details for each safety recall are on the pages that follow, in alphabetical order by car brand.

  • 2017 BMW X5 xDrive40e photo

    2017 BMW X5

    • Number of vehicles affected: 36
    • Issue: The affected 2017 X5 sDrive35i, X5 xDrive35i, X5 xDrive50i, X5 xDrive35d, and X5 xDrive40e vehicles are equipped with passenger frontal air bag modules using certain air bag inflators that may not vent properly in the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger frontal air bag.
    • Remedy: BMW has notified owners, and dealers will replace the air bag modules free of charge.
    • Timing: The recall began on March 20, 2017. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

    2017 Ford Mustang

    • Number of vehicles affected: 5,470
    • Issue: The return spring for the driver-side interior door handle may come loose, allowing the driver's door to unlatch in a side-impact crash.
    • Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the driver-side interior door handle and repair the return spring, as necessary, free of charge.
    • Timing: The recall is expected to begin April 24, 2017. Owners may contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332.

    2017 Kia Niro

    • Number of vehicles affected: 135
    • Issue: A damaged motor-driven power steering (MDPS) connector may result in a loss of electric power steering assistance.
    • Remedy: Kia will notify owners, and dealers will replace the MDPS motor free of charge.
    • Timing: The recall is expected to begin April 7, 2017. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542.

  • 2017 Maserati Levante photo

    2017 Maserati Levante

    • Number of vehicles affected: 3,299
    • Issue: Due to an engine software problem, at slow speeds, such as in stop-and-go traffic, the transmission may unexpectedly shift into neutral or the engine may shut off.
    • Remedy: Maserati will notify owners, and dealers will update the engine control module software free of charge.
    • Timing: The recall is expected to begin March 31, 2017. Owners may contact Maserati customer service at 1-201-510-2369.

  • 2014 Nissan Murano photo

    2013-2014 Nissan Murano

    • Number of vehicles affected: 56,766
    • Issue: The power steering hose clamp may not adequately secure the hose, allowing the hose to detach and leak power steering fluid.
    • Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will install a power steering high-pressure hose kit free of charge.
    • Timing: The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.
