Recall Roundup: Mitsubishi Announces Lancer, Outlander, Outlander Sport Recalls in Three Separate Actions

During the past week, Mitsubishi Motors North America (Mitsubishi) announced three separate recalls involving a total of 368,048 light passenger vehicles. The recalls affect various Outlander, Outlander Sport, and Lancer models from the 2007 through 2016 model years.

Details for each safety recall follow, in alphabetical order by car brand.

2009-2012 Mitsubishi Lancer, Lancer Sportback
2009-2012 Mitsubishi Outlander, Outlander Sport
  • Number of vehicles affected: 141,053
  • Issue: Mitsubishi is recalling certain 2009-2012 Lancer, 2008-2012 Outlander, 2010-2012 Lancer Sportback, and 2011-2012 Outlander Sport vehicles equipped with either a 4B11 or 4B12 engine. The drive belt automatic tensioner flange may crack, allowing the accessory drive belt to detach.
  • Remedy: Mitsubishi will notify owners, and dealers will replace the belt tensioner with one that has an improved shape free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin March 27, 2018. Owners may contact Mitsubishi customer service at 1-888-648-7820.

2013-2016 Mitsubishi Outlander, Outlander Sport

  • Number of vehicles affected: 170,354
  • Issue: Water may enter the rear brake calipers, causing the parking brake actuator shafts to corrode and possibly bind.
  • Remedy: Mitsubishi will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the rear brake calipers and replace the parking brake boot and lever or the brake caliper body, as necessary. Dealers will also replace the piston assembly of the rear brake caliper. These repairs will be performed free of charge to the vehicle owner.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin March 27, 2018. Owners may contact Mitsubishi customer service at 1-888-648-7820.

2007-2010 Mitsubishi Lancer, Lancer Evolution, Lancer Sportback
2007-2010 Mitsubishi Outlander

  • Number of vehicles affected: 56,641
  • Issue: The affected vehicles feature sunroofs. The sunroof glass may detach from the sunroof assembly, becoming a road hazard to other vehicles.
  • Remedy: Mitsubishi will notify owners, and dealers will replace the sunroof glass assembly free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin March 27, 2018. Owners may contact Mitsubishi customer service at 1-888-648-7820.
