Recall Roundup: Mercedes, Nissan Each Recall Approximately 25K Vehicles

During the past week, automakers issued recalls affecting approximately 58,000 light passenger vehicles, from the 2013 through 2018 model years. The bulk of the recalls come from Mercedes-Benz and Nissan; Acura and BMW vehicles have also been recalled.

2015 Acura TLX

  • Number of vehicles affected: 8,354
  • Issue: The transmission wire harness connections may have insufficient crimps, and, as a result, the transmission may unexpectedly shift to neutral.
  • Remedy: Acura has notified owners, and dealers will, based on the automatic transmission serial number, update the transmission software to prevent the transmission from shifting into neutral due to a faulty crimp. The repairs will be made free of charge to the vehicle owner.
  • Timing: The recall began January 13, 2017. Owners may contact Acura customer service at 1-888-234-2138.

2017-2018 BMW M760Li xDrive

  • Number of vehicles affected: 97
  • Issue: The engine oil cooler lines may loosen causing an oil leak in the engine compartment.
  • Remedy: BMW will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the engine oil cooler lines, replacing them as necessary, free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin June 1, 2017. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

2016-2017 Mercedes-Benz C300

  • Number of vehicles affected: 3
  • Issue: The electrical contacts for the power steering electric motor may not have been properly welded, possibly resulting in a loss of electrical contact.
  • Remedy: Mercedes-Benz will notify owners, and dealers will replace the electric power steering rack free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin in June 2017. Owners may contact Mercedes-Benz customer service at 1-800-367-6372.

2017 Mercedes-Benz E300, E300 4Matic

  • Number of vehicles affected: 15
  • Issue: The software for the widescreen instrument cluster may cause the instrument cluster to not display anything on vehicle startup, or the display may reset while driving.
  • Remedy: Mercedes-Benz will notify owners, and dealers will update the instrument cluster display software free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin in late May 2017. Owners may contact Mercedes-Benz customer service at 1-800-367-6372.

2016-2017 Mercedes-Benz E300, E300 4Matic

  • Number of vehicles affected: 411
  • Issue: The roof-mounted spoiler may not be properly attached and thus may detach while driving.
  • Remedy: Mercedes-Benz will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the roof spoilers, replacing them as necessary, free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin in early June 2017. Owners may contact Mercedes-Benz customer service at 1-800-367-6372.

2013-2016 Mercedes-Benz G550, G63 AMG, and G65

  • Number of vehicles affected: 10,832
  • Issue: The steering coupling may have been insufficiently tightened, resulting in the steering connection wearing.
  • Remedy: Mercedes-Benz will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steering coupling free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin in May 2017. Owners may contact Mercedes-Benz customer service at 1-800-367-6372.

2013 Mercedes-Benz R320 4Matic CDI

  • Number of vehicles affected: 1
  • Issue: In the event of a crash where the primary communication pathway between the air bag control unit and the engine control unit is damaged, the supplementary communication pathway may not shut off the engine or fuel pump.
  • Remedy: Mercedes-Benz will notify the owner, and a dealer will update the engine control unit with new software free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin by early June 2017. Owners may contact Mercedes-Benz customer service at 1-800-367-6372.

Various 2017 Mercedes-Benz Vehicles

  • Number of vehicles affected: 12,743
  • Issue: Mercedes-Benz is recalling certain 2017 C300, C300 4Matic, C300 Coupe, C300 Coupe 4Matic, C43 AMG, C43 AMG Coupe, C43 AMG Cabrio, C63 AMG, C63 AMG Coupe, C63S AMG, C63S AMG Coupe, C63S Cabrio, GLC300, GLC300 4Matic, GLC43 AMG, S550, S550 4Matic, S550e, S600, S63 AMG 4Matic, S65, Mercedes-Maybach S550 4Matic, and Mercedes-Maybach S600 vehicles. The affected vehicles have front seat belt pre-tensioners that may not function properly in the event of a crash.
  • Remedy: Mercedes-Benz will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front seat belts free of charge.
  • Timing: Remedy parts are not currently available. Owners will be notified of the recall in May 2017 and will be sent a second notification when remedy parts become available. Owners may contact Mercedes-Benz customer service at 1-800-367-6372.
  • NHTSA recall number: 17V251000

Various 2013-2015 Mercedes-Benz Vehicles

  • Number of vehicles affected: 168
  • Issue: Mercedes-Benz is recalling certain 2013-2014 C250, C300 4Matic, GLK250 4Matic Bluetec and GLK350 vehicles; 2013 C250 Coupe, C350, C350 4Matic Coupe, C350 Coupe and C63 AMG Coupe vehicles; and 2013-2015 GLK350 4Matic vehicles. The steering coupling connecting bolt may have been insufficiently tightened, possibly resulting in a loss of steering.
  • Remedy: Mercedes-Benz will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the steering coupling connecting bolt, tightening it as necessary, free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin in May 2017. Owners may contact Mercedes-Benz customer service at 1-800-367-6372.

2014-2017 Nissan Leaf

2014-2017 Nissan Sentra

  • Number of vehicles affected: 25,283
  • Issue: Due to a manufacturing error within the air bag inflators, the passenger frontal air bag may not properly deploy in the event of a crash.
  • Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front passenger air bag inflator free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin June 11, 2017. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.
