Recall Roundup: Maserati Suspensions and Subaru Steering Require Attention from Dealers

Recall Roundup: Maserati Suspensions and Subaru Steering Require Attention from Dealers

By Jeff Youngs, May 20, 2013
Several Italian luxury and sports cars are heading back to dealerships for repairs in June, and Subaru has already begun fixing a steering problem with its 2013 Legacy and Outback models.

Maserati Tie Rod Recall
Maserati needs to install new rear tie-rod assemblies in 7,438 units of the 2008 Alfa Romeo 8C, 2008 Maserati GranTurismo, and 2005-2008 Maserati Quattroporte. In these models, the rear tie-rod assemblies have insufficient anti-corrosion material applied to them, which could allow the components to corrode, weaken, and possibly fail. A rear tie-rod failure could lead to a loss of vehicle control followed by a crash.

Starting at the end of June 2013, Maserati dealers will replace the tie-rods in these vehicles at no cost to the customer. Owners with questions can contact Maserati by calling 1-877-696-2737 and referencing Maserati recall campaign number 205. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) campaign number for this recall is 13V196000.

Subaru Steering Column Recall
If you own a 2013 Subaru Legacy or Outback that was built between February 15, 2012, and June 15, 2012, you might have one of the 5,379 vehicles that must go back to a dealership to have a new steering column assembly installed, free of charge. In these models, the inner and outer shafts of the steering column may become disengaged, which results in a loss of steering. A loss of steering increases the risk of a crash.

This recall is currently underway. Owners can call Subaru at 1-800-782-2783 with any questions, referencing the Subaru recall campaign number of WQI-45. The NHTSA recall campaign number is 13V194000.
