Recall Roundup: Hyundai Recalls More Than 615,000 Vehicles, Including Genesis, Sonata, Santa Fe, Santa Fe Sport

During the past week, automakers issued recalls that affect a total of approximately 770,000 light passenger vehicles, going back as far as the 2004 model year. Three of these recalls come from Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai), which recalled approximately 615,000 vehicles in all. Jaguar Land Rover North America (Jaguar), Mazda North American Operations (Mazda), Toyota Motor (Toyota), and Volkswagen Group of America (Volkswagen) vehicles have also been recalled.

2015-2016 Hyundai Genesis
2015-2016 Hyundai Sonata

  • Number of vehicles affected: 161,074
  • Issue: The warning light to indicate that the parking brake is applied may intermittently not illuminate in the dash due to corrosion in the switch.
  • Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the parking brake switch free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin on June 30, 2017. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-671-3059.

2013-2017 Hyundai Santa Fe, Santa Fe Sport

  • Number of vehicles affected: 437,400
  • Issue: The secondary hood latch actuating cable may corrode and bind, causing the secondary hood latch to remain in the unlatched position when the hood is closed.
  • Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the secondary latch cable free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin June 30, 2017. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-671-3059.

2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport

  • Number of vehicles affected: 17,160
  • Issue: The bolt for the driver's seat belt anchor might not have been sufficiently tightened during assembly.
  • Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will verify that the driver's seat belt anchor is properly secured free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin June 30, 2017. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-800-633-5151.

2018 Jaguar F-Type

  • Number of vehicles affected: 18
  • Issue: If a front turn signal indicator stops working, the visual and audible turn signal reminders do not flash or chime faster, as required.
  • Remedy: Jaguar will notify owners, and dealers will update the vehicle's software free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin on July 17, 2017. Owners may contact Jaguar customer service at 1-800-452-4827.

2004 Mazda RX-8

  • Number of vehicles affected: 35,332
  • Issue: The ball joint socket on the front suspension lower control arm may crack and the ball joint may separate from the socket.
  • Remedy: Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front lower control arms free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin July 30, 2017. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500.

2004-2008 Mazda RX-8

  • Number of vehicles affected: 69,447
  • Issue: Heat from the engine and the exhaust may cause the main fuel pump pipe to crack.
  • Remedy: Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel pump filter kit free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin July 30, 2017. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500.

2016-2017 Toyota Tacoma

  • Number of vehicles affected: 31,824
  • Issue: The affected vehicles, which employ a 6-cylinder engine, have a crank position sensor that may malfunction, potentially resulting in an engine stall.
  • Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace the crank position sensor with an improved design free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin July 17, 2017. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331.
  • Manufacturer recall number: H0H
  • NHTSA recall number: 17V356000


2017 Volkswagen Jetta

  • Number of vehicles affected: 2
  • Issue: The affected vehicles have vehicle identification number (VIN) markings on the body that do not match the VIN plate near the windshield.
  • Remedy: Volkswagen has notified owners and has replaced the vehicles free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall began on June 2, 2017. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298.
