Recall Roundup: Honda Recalls Older Vehicles to Address Faulty Air Bag Inflators

By Jeff Youngs, March 23, 2015

Last week, Honda Motor (Honda) recalled a total of 104,871 vehicles, including certain 2001 Accord, 2004 Civic, and 2008 Pilot models. Upon deployment of these vehicles' driver-side frontal air bags, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture, possibly causing metal fragments to strike and injure vehicle occupants.

Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver-side frontal air bag inflator in all affected vehicles, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-800-999-1009; owners may also refer to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) campaign number 15V153000. Note: This recall is an expansion of recall 14V-351.
