Recall Roundup: Honda Recalls Odyssey Minivan to Address Second-Row Seat Release Levers

During the past week, American Honda Motor Co. (Honda) issued three product recalls affecting a total of 650,481 light passenger vehicles, primarily the Honda Odyssey minivan. Porsche Cars North America (Porsche), Jaguar Land Rover North America (Land Rover), Mercedes-Benz USA (Mercedes), Nissan North America (Nissan), General Motors (GM), and Ford Motor Co. (Ford) also issued recalls.

2016 Buick Envision
  • Number of vehicles affected: 327
  • Date of manufacture: January 19, 2016 to March 18, 2016
  • Issue: The master cylinder brake lines may crack and leak brake fluid, possibly reducing braking performance.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the master cylinder brake lines free of charge.
  • Timing: The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300.

2017 Ford Explorer, Explorer Police Interceptor
2016-2017 Ford Flex

2016-2017 Lincoln MKT

  • Number of vehicles affected: 1,163
  • Issue: In vehicles equipped with 3.5-liter GTDI engines, improperly brazed turbocharger oil supply tubes may leak oil on engine components, increasing the risk of a fire.
  • Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect, and if necessary, replace the turbocharger oil supply tubes free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin on January 23, 2017. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332.

2011-2016 Honda Odyssey

  • Number of vehicles affected: 633,753
  • Date of manufacture: August 17, 2010 to October 1, 2015
  • Issue: Second-row outboard seats have a release lever that allows the seats to move for easier access to the third row of seats. This release lever may remain in the unlocked position, allowing the seats to move unexpectedly.
  • Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will install an additional bracket and spring to both second-row outboard seats free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin January 23, 2017. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138.

2016 Honda Odyssey

  • Number of vehicles affected: 7,549
  • Date of manufacture: September 23, 2016 to October 24, 2016
  • Issue: The horizontal adjuster bar for the second-row center seat may stick in the unlocked position, allowing the seat to unexpectedly slide.
  • Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the slide function and replace the horizontal position adjustment bar, as necessary, free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin January 23, 2017. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138.

2017 Honda Ridgeline AWD

  • Number of vehicles affected: 9,179
  • Date of manufacture: April 1, 2016 to August 11, 2016
  • Issue: Water may enter the rear wiring harness through the connector located under the truck bed drain hole, possibly causing the connection terminals to corrode.
  • Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the rear wiring harness and related components, replacing them as necessary, free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin January 24, 2017. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138.

2016-2017 Land Rover Discovery Sport
2016-2017 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque

  • Number of vehicles affected: 220
  • Date of manufacture: May 30, 2016 to August 26, 2016
  • Issue: Front lower control arm fasteners may fail due to an assembly error, possibly resulting in separation of the steering knuckle.
  • Remedy: Land Rover will notify owners, and dealers will replace the hardware that connects the front lower control arm to the knuckle free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin January 30, 2017. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837.

2014-2016 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
2014-2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class
2013-2015 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class
2015-2016 Mercedes-Maybach S600

  • Number of vehicles affected: 70
  • Date of manufacture: August 23, 2012 to August 14, 2015
  • Issue: In the affected 2013-2015 model-year SL550, 2013-2014 SL63 AMG, 2014-2016 E350, 2014 E350 Cabriolet, E350 Coupe, 2014-2015 S550, 2015 E350 Bluetec, 2015-2016 E400, 2016 E550 Coupe, and Maybach S600 vehicles, the electric power steering system may have improperly soldered contacts inside the control unit, potentially resulting in the power steering system deactivating while driving. The increase in pin contact resistance can also increase the risk of a fire, even while the vehicle is parked and the ignition is off.
  • Remedy: Mercedes will notify owners, and dealers will replace the electric power steering control unit free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin in February 2017. Owners may contact Mercedes customer service at 1-800-367-6372.

2013-2015 Nissan Altima
2016 Nissan Maxima
2015-2016 Nissan Rogue

  • Number of vehicles affected: 757
  • Date of manufacture: January 3, 2013 to August 12, 2016
  • Issue: An incorrect occupant classification system (OCS) electronic control unit (ECU) may have been installed in the front passenger seat. The incorrect ECU and seat combination may misclassify the front passenger seat occupant, possibly causing the air bag to deploy incorrectly in the event of a crash.
  • Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ECU and update the OCS software free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin by February 12, 2017. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.

2015 Porsche 918 Spyder

  • Number of vehicles affected: 306
  • Date of manufacture: November 6, 2013 to July 27, 2015
  • Issue: The front lower control arms may crack at the ball joint. A cracked lower control arm may affect vehicle handling, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Porsche will notify owners, and dealers will replace the lower control arms free of charge.
  • Timing: The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Porsche customer service at 1-800-767-7243.
