Recall Roundup: Ford Recalls Most Transit Vans from Past Three Years

During the past week, Ford Motor Company (Ford) recalled 372,991 Transit vans from the 2015, 2016, and 2017 model years. Other manufacturers, including Volkswagen Group of America (VW), Jaguar Land Rover North America, American Honda Motor Co. (Honda), and General Motors (GM), issued recalls that affect approximately 34,500 light passenger vehicles.

2016-2017 Audi Q3

  • Number of vehicles affected: 24,754
  • Issue: If the parking brake is used during emergency braking, the brake lights on the vehicle will not activate.
  • Remedy: Audi will notify owners, and dealers will update the vehicle software free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin in July 2017. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834.

2016-2017 Buick Envision

  • Number of vehicles affected: 768
  • Issue: An accessory NSV Universal Tablet Holder may have been installed incorrectly onto the front-seat head restraints, preventing the head restraint posts from fully engaging in the seat back.
  • Remedy: The manufacturer will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the head restraints and tablet holders for the correct installation, reinstalling them as necessary, free of charge.
  • Timing: The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300.

2016 Ford Escape

  • Number of vehicles affected: 3
  • Issue: The driver's knee air bag modules were produced without the inflator gas generant material, and, as a result, the air bags may not inflate properly in the event of a crash.
  • Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace driver's knee air bag free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin August 18, 2017. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332.

2015-2017 Ford Transit

  • Number of vehicles affected: 372,991
  • Issue: Ford is recalling all 2015-2017 Transit vehicles except 156-in. and 178-in. wheelbase chassis cab and cut-away bodies. In the affected vehicles, the flexible coupling connecting the transmission to the driveshaft may prematurely fail.
  • Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and as an interim repair, dealers will replace the flexible coupling on any vehicle with more than 30,000 miles. A final remedy repair of a redesigned flexible coupling or a revised driveshaft equipped with a universal joint is being developed. These repairs will be made free of charge to the vehicle owner.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin July 17, 2017. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332.

2018 Honda Odyssey

  • Number of vehicles affected: 3,927
  • Issue: The seat belt tongue for the third-row center seating position may not be compatible with the latch, preventing the seat belt from latching securely.
  • Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the third-row center seat belt to make sure that it has the correct tongue, replacing the seat belt, if necessary, free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin July 24, 2017. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138.

2010-2011 Jaguar XJ

  • Number of vehicles affected: 4,926
  • Issue: If, while servicing the vehicle, the vehicle does not successfully receive an update to the restraint control module (RCM) software, the default air bag calibration settings may be incorrect.
  • Remedy: Jaguar will notify owners, and dealers will update the RCM with the latest software free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin on August 18, 2017. Owners may contact Jaguar customer service at 1-800-452-4827.
