Recall Roundup: Ford to Fix Child Safety Door Locks

Recall Roundup: Ford to Fix Child Safety Door Locks

By Jeff Youngs, July 15, 2013
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued a single recall this past week related to cars, SUVs, vans, and pickup trucks.

Ford Motor Company is recalling 12,569 units of the 2013 Ford Explorer, 2013 Ford Taurus, and 2013 Lincoln MKS that were built between November 29, 2012, and December 12, 2012. If owners of these vehicles open and close the doors frequently enough, the child safety door locks could change from the activated position to the deactivated position without notice, increasing the risk of injury to an unrestrained child.

To resolve the problem, dealers will test and, if necessary, install new safety locks at no charge to the vehicle owner. The recall is expected to start on August 5, 2013. Ford's recall number is 13S07 and vehicle owners can contact Ford with questions by calling 1-866-436-7332. For reference, the NHTSA recall campaign number is 13V270000.
