Recall Roundup: FCA Recalls 646,394 Dodge Durango, Jeep Cherokee SUVs to Inspect Brake Booster Shields

During the past week, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles US (FCA US) recalled a total of 646,394 Dodge Durango and Jeep Cherokee SUVs from the 2011 through 2014 model years. Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai), Kia Motors America (Kia), Mercedes-Benz USA (Mercedes), Mitsubishi Motors North America (Mitsubishi), Porsche Cars North America (Porsche), and Volkswagen Group of America (Volkswagen) also announced recalls of approximately 192,000 light passenger vehicles combined.

2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid

  • Number of vehicles affected: 1,353
  • Issue: Diodes in the power inverter module (PIM) may fail due to an overvoltage condition. If the diodes fail, the vehicle will not move under its own power.
  • Remedy: FCA has not yet finalized its remedy plans for this recall.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin on July 24, 2017. Owners may contact FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403.

2011-2014 Dodge Durango
2011-2014 Jeep Cherokee

  • Number of vehicles affected: 646,394
  • Issue: The affected vehicles had brake booster shields installed under a previous campaign to prevent water from entering the brake booster and limiting braking ability. This recall is to verify that the brake booster shield installation was performed properly.
  • Remedy: FCA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the brake booster shield, correcting the installation as necessary, free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin November 7, 2017. Owners may contact FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403.

2017 Hyundai Santa Fe

  • Number of vehicles affected: 420
  • Issue: The affected vehicles are equipped with 3.3-liter engines. The crankshaft assemblies may have been produced with surface irregularities in the crankshaft pin, causing engine bearing wear.
  • Remedy: Hyundai will notify all owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the engine, as necessary, free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin October 18, 2017. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460.

2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport

  • Number of vehicles affected: 197
  • Issue: The front coil springs may have been improperly manufactured and, as a result, may fracture under certain loads while driving.
  • Remedy: All of the affected vehicles are currently unsold on dealer lots. Dealers will replace both front coil springs free of charge prior to the vehicle's sale.
  • Timing: Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460.

2017 Kia Sorento

  • Number of vehicles affected: 62
  • Issue: The affected vehicles are equipped with 3.3-liter engines. The engine crankshaft may have been improperly heat treated and may fail.
  • Remedy: Kia will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the crankshaft, and, as necessary, replace the engine sub assembly, free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin November 6, 2017. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542.

2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC300

  • Number of vehicles affected: 4
  • Issue: Mercedes is recalling one 2017 C43 AMG, one E300 4Matic sedan, one GLC300, and one E43 AMG 4Matic sedan. These vehicles have electrical power steering control units with improperly welded contact pins.
  • Remedy: Mercedes will notify owners, and dealers will replace the electric power steering rack free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin November 10, 2017. Owners may contact Mercedes customer service at 1-877-496-3691.

2004-2006 Mitsubishi Lancer, Lancer Evolution, Lancer Sportback

  • Number of vehicles affected: 66,001
  • Issue: The affected vehicles are equipped with a passenger-side frontal air bag that may be susceptible to moisture intrusion which, over time, could cause the inflator to rupture.
  • Remedy: Mitsubishi will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front passenger air bag inflator with a different inflator free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin on October 22, 2017. Owners may contact Mitsubishi customer service at 1-888-648-7820.

2004-2006 Porsche Cayenne
2003-2006 Porsche Cayenne S, Cayenne Turbo
2006 Porsche Cayenne S Titanium Edition

  • Number of vehicles affected: 50,145
  • Issue: The affected 2003-2006 Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo, 2004-2006 Cayenne, and 2006 Cayenne S Titanium Edition vehicles have a fuel pump flange that may crack, allowing fuel to leak.
  • Remedy: Porsche will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel filter flanges with new filter flanges that have a protective film free of charge.
  • Timing: The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Porsche customer service at 1-800-767-7243.
  • Manufacturer recall number: AH10
  • NHTSA recall number: 17V576000


2004-2007 Volkswagen Touareg

  • Number of vehicles affected: 73,941
  • Issue: The affected vehicles have a fuel filter flange that may crack, allowing fuel to leak.
  • Remedy: Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the fuel filter flange for cracks, replacing the flange if cracks are found. If no cracks are found, a protective cover will be installed onto the filter flange. These repairs will be performed free of charge to the vehicle owner.
  • Timing: Parts are not currently available, but owners will be notified of the recall beginning November 19, 2017. A second notice will be sent when remedy parts become available. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298.
