Recall Roundup: Daimler Recalls Sprinter Vans; Acura to Tweak CMBS on its MDX SUV, RLX Sedan
By Jeff Youngs,
During the past week, a total of 62,520 passenger vehicles were recalled by their manufacturers, including more than 40,000 Sprinter vans and nearly 20,000 Acura MDX SUVs and RLX sedans to address a problem with the collision-mitigation braking system (CMBS). Details for each recall are below, in alphabetical order by vehicle brand.
2014-2015 Acura MDX
2014-2015 Acura RLX
2014 Acura RLX Hybrid
American Honda Motor Co. (Honda) is recalling 19,502 model-year 2014-2015 Acura MDX 2WD and AWD, RLX, and 2014 Acura RLX Hybrid vehicles. In certain driving conditions, the CMBS may incorrectly interpret certain roadside objects such as metal fences or metal guardrails as obstacles and unexpectedly apply the brakes.
Honda will notify owners, and dealers will update the CMBS software free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Acura customer service at 1-800-382-2238. Honda's numbers for this recall are JQ4, JQ5, and JQ6; owners may also refer to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) campaign number 15V301000.
2006-2008 Dodge Sprinter 2500, Sprinter 3500
2007-2008 Freightliner Sprinter 2500, Sprinter 3500
Daimler Vans USA (DVUSA) is recalling 40,061 model-year 2006-2008 Dodge Sprinter 2500 and 3500, and 2007-2008 Freightliner Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vans manufactured July 1, 2005, to July 31, 2008. The affected vehicles are equipped with a passenger-side frontal air bag that may be susceptible to moisture intrusion, which, over time, could cause the inflator to rupture upon its deployment. This could cause metal fragments to strike the passenger-seat occupant or other occupants.
Daimler will notify the Freightliner owners and Fiat Chrysler will notify the Dodge owners. Dealers will replace the passenger air bag inflator free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Freightliner owners may contact DVUSA customer service at 1-877-762-8267. Dodge owners may contact Fiat Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Owners may refer to NHTSA campaign number 15V354000.
2015 Volkswagen Tiguan
Volkswagen Group of America (Volkswagen) is recalling 2,957 model-year 2015 Tiguan vehicles manufactured January 22, 2015, to March 20, 2015. These vehicles may be equipped with certification labels that are missing the required tire-pressure information and they may state incorrect weight and loading information. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567: Certification. If the labels have incorrect weight and loading information, the operator may overload the vehicle, which could cause vehicle instability.
Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will correct the information on the certification label free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in June 2015. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 01A5; owners may also refer to NHTSA campaign number 15V311000.
