By Jeff Youngs, October 21, 2014

During the past week, two of the Detroit Three automakers announced large vehicle recalls. American Honda, Mazda, and Mitsubishi also announced small recalls. In all, approximately 845,000 vehicles are affected. Details are below, in alphabetical order by vehicle brand.

2015 Acura TLX AWD
American Honda Motor Co. (Honda) is recalling 189 model-year 2015 Acura TLX AWD vehicles manufactured August 26, 2014, to September 20, 2014. The affected vehicles may have incorrect values for the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) and Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) front and rear printed on the safety certification label. As such, the vehicles do not conform to Part 567: Certification. If the vehicle is loaded to the specifications listed on the label, tire failure may result, increasing the risk of a crash.

Honda will notify owners, and dealers will install a corrected certification label, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on October 21, 2014. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-800-382-2238. Honda's number for this recall is JK6; owners may also refer to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) campaign number 14V613000.

Chrysler Group: Various 2011-2014 Vehicles
Chrysler Group (Chrysler) is recalling 434,581 model-year 2011-2014 vehicles, including:

The affected vehicles were manufactured April 22, 2010, to January 2, 2014, and are equipped with a 3.6-liter engine and a 160-amp alternator. In these vehicles, the alternator may suddenly fail, causing it to stall without warning.

Chrysler is expected to begin notifying owners of this recall on November 28, 2014. The remedy for this recall campaign is still under development. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is P60. Owners may also refer to NHTSA campaign number 14V634000.

GM: Various 2013-2014 Vehicles
General Motors (GM) is recalling a total of 97,540 model-year 2013-2014 vehicles, including:

In the affected vehicles, the chassis electronic module may be internally contaminated, resulting in an electrical short that could cause the vehicle to stall.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the chassis electronic module, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-521-7300 (Buick), 1-800-458-8006 (Cadillac), 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), and 1-800-462-8782 (GMC). GM's number for this recall is 14515; owners may also refer to NHTSA campaign number 14V614000.

2011-2013 Jeep Wrangler
Chrysler is recalling 313,236 model-year 2011-2013 Jeep Wrangler vehicles manufactured February 16, 2010, to July 19, 2013. Corrosion in the exterior heated power mirror electrical connector may result in an electrical short.

Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will move the exterior mirror power feed to a separate connector, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin December 5, 2014. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is P61; owners may also refer to NHTSA campaign number 14V631000.

2008 Mazda Tribute Hybrid
Mazda is recalling 423 model-year 2008 Mazda Tribute Hybrid vehicles manufactured October 10, 2006, to May 23, 2008. The coolant pump for the hybrid system may fail, resulting in the hybrid electronics overheating. This could cause the powertrain to shut down, resulting in a stall-like condition.

Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the original Motor Electronics Coolant (MEC) pump with an improved brushless pump, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on November 3, 2014. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5000. Mazda's number for this recall is 7814I; owners may also refer to NHTSA campaign number 14V552000.

2011 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport
Mitsubishi is recalling two model-year 2011 Outlander Sport vehicles manufactured on September 3, 2010. In the affected vehicles, the switch sleeve in the brake booster may crack and prevent the brake pedal from returning properly. If the pedal is unable to move back to the proper position, the vehicle may not move as expected, increasing the risk of a crash.

Mitsubishi will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the brake booster, replacing it as necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in October 2014.
