Recall Roundup: Aston Martin, Mercedes, Nissan Announce Multiple Recalls

During the past week, several automakers issued recalls of light vehicles from model years 2010 through 2016. A total of 18,336 vehicles are affected. The recalls involve vehicles made by Aston Martin Lagonda, General Motors (GM), Mercedes-Benz, and Nissan Motor. Details for each safety recall are below, in alphabetical order by car brand.


2010-2016 Aston Martin Vehicles
  • Number of vehicles affected: 6,076
  • Date of manufacture: Recall affects vehicles from the 2010 through 2016 model years.
  • Issue: Aston Martin Lagonda (Aston Martin) is recalling certain model-year 2010-2015 DB9, 2010-2012 DBS, 2010-2016 V8 Vantage, 2012 Virage, 2010-2016 Rapide, 2014-2016 Vanquish, 2011-2016 V12 Vantage, and 2012-2013 V12 Zagato vehicles. The affected vehicles are equipped with interior door unlocking mechanisms that may not function when the vehicle has been locked from the outside. If the doors cannot be opened by an occupant from inside the vehicle, they may be trapped inside, increasing their risk of injury.
  • Remedy: Aston Martin will notify owners, and dealers will disable the double locking feature by reprogramming the software free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin August 1, 2016. Owners may contact Aston Martin customer service at 1-888-923-9988.

2016 Chevrolet Equinox
2016 GMC Terrain
  • Number of vehicles affected: 17
  • Date of manufacture: October 16, 2015
  • Issue: The certification labels may have incorrect tire/rim size and cold tire pressure information. If the information on the certification labels is incorrect, the operator may install incorrectly sized tires or rims or may improperly inflate the tires, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the certification label free of charge.
  • Timing: The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1050, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782.

2016 Mercedes-Benz C300 4Matic
  • Number of vehicles affected: 17
  • Date of manufacture: November 4, 2015 to March 1, 2016
  • Issue: The electric power steering assist system may shut down due to a software error.
  • Remedy: Mercedes-Benz will notify owners, and dealers will update the software for the electric power steering control unit free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin in July 2016. Owners may contact Mercedes-Benz customer service at 1-800-367-6372.

2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE450 AMG 4Matic Coupe
  • Number of vehicles affected: 5,826
  • Date of manufacture: December 10, 2014 to June 6, 2016
  • Issue: An error within the engine control unit (ECU) software may allow the engine to shut down while the vehicle is braking, possibly confusing the driver into thinking the shutdown was planned due to the Eco start/stop function.
  • Remedy: Mercedes-Benz will notify owners, and dealers will update the ECU software free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin in July 2016. Owners may contact Mercedes-Benz customer service at 1-800-367-6372.

2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE450 AMG 4Matic
2015-2016 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
  • Number of vehicles affected: 423
  • Date of manufacture: April 27, 2015 through May 19, 2015
  • Issue: Mercedes-Benz is recalling certain model-year 2015 ML250, ML350, ML350 4Matic, ML400 4Matic, ML63 AMG, and 2016 GLE450 AMG 4Matic vehicles. The affected vehicles may have had the right rear seat belt anchor bolt incorrectly installed. In the event of a vehicle crash, the right rear seat belt anchor bolt could fail to secure the passenger, increasing their risk of injury.
  • Remedy: Mercedes-Benz will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, if necessary, correct the installation of the right rear seat belt anchor bolt free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin in July 2016. Owners may contact Mercedes-Benz customer service at 1-800-367-6372.

2015 Mercedes-Benz SLK300, SLK350
2015 Mercedes-Benz SL400, SL550, SL63 AMG
  • Number of vehicles affected: 100
  • Date of manufacture: June 29, 2015 through July 13, 2015
  • Issue: Low-beam headlights that may have been aimed incorrectly during vehicle production. Improperly adjusted low-beam headlights may reduce the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Mercedes-Benz will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, if necessary, adjust the headlamps free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin in July 2016. Owners may contact Mercedes-Benz customer service at 1-800-367-6372.

2016 Nissan Leaf
2016 Nissan Sentra
  • Number of vehicles affected: 4,355
  • Date of manufacture: February 9, 2016 through March 23, 2016
  • Issue: The wiring harness connector may disconnect from the dual-stage passenger air bag. If the wiring harness disconnects, the passenger air bag may not to deploy during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
  • Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the wiring harness connector for proper engagement and, if necessary, replace the passenger air bag module and main body harness free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin in late July 2016. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.
  • NHTSA recall number: 16V436000


2016 Nissan Sentra
  • Number of vehicles affected: 1,522
  • Date of manufacture: April 11, 2016 through April 26, 2016
  • Issue: The engine room harness may have a terminal pin too large to maintain a connection with the engine control unit (ECU). If the engine room harness loses connection to the ECU, the vehicle may not start or the engine may stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the terminal pin on the engine room harness free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin by August 26, 2016. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.
