During the past week, Volkswagen Group of America (VW), Toyota Motor (Toyota), General Motors (GM), American Honda Motor Co. (Honda), Fiat Chrysler Automobiles US (FCA US), and Mercedes-Benz USA (Mercedes) issued recalls that affect a total of 165,569 light passenger vehicles. The largest recall affects 84,262 Volkswagen Passat vehicles from the 2012, 2013, and 2014 model years.

2015-2017 Audi A7

  • Number of vehicles affected: 17,694
  • Issue: The head curtain air bags may not deploy properly in the event of a crash.
  • Remedy: VW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected head curtain air bags free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin June 29, 2017. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834.

2017 Audi Q5

  • Number of vehicles affected: 5
  • Issue: Due to a manufacturing defect within the gearbox, despite selecting the “Park” position, the vehicle may still unexpectedly roll.
  • Remedy: VW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the gearbox in the affected vehicles free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin in May 2017. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834.

2016-2017 Chevrolet Spark

  • Number of vehicles affected: 55,068
  • Issue: In the event of a crash, if a young child is seated improperly and not wearing a seat belt while in the front passenger seat, deployment of the front passenger air bag may injure the occupant's neck.
  • Remedy: The remedy for this recall is still under development.
  • Timing: The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020.

2015-2016 Honda CR-V

  • Number of vehicles affected: 16
  • Issue: The affected vehicles recently received a replacement engine, which may have been built with the wrong pistons, potentially affecting the engine's performance.
  • Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the engines and replace the incorrect components, as necessary, free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin June 5, 2017. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138.

2017 Jeep Compass

  • Number of vehicles affected: 1,178
  • Issue: The left front half-shaft may not be properly seated, and, as a result, it may disengage from the transmission and/or break.
  • Remedy: FCA US will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the left front half-shaft for engagement and replace any that are not properly engaged in the transmission free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin on June 23, 2017. Owners may contact FCA US customer service at 1-800-853-1403.

2015-2016 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class
2016-2017 Mercedes-Benz SLC300
2017 Mercedes-Benz SLC43 AMG

  • Number of vehicles affected: 5,818
  • Issue: Mercedes is recalling certain 2015 SLK 250, 2016 SLK 350, 2016-2017 SLC 300, and 2017 SLC43 AMG vehicles. In these vehicles, the electronic stability control (ESC) system software may incorrectly keep the brakes slightly applied.
  • Remedy: Mercedes will notify owners, and dealers will update the software for the ESC system free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin in late June 2017. Owners may contact Mercedes customer service at 1-800-367-6372.

2016-2017 Toyota 4Runner

  • Number of vehicles affected: 1,019
  • Issue: The affected vehicles are equipped with the TFORCE accessory package. The fasteners for the aftermarket roof rack may have been improperly tightened.
  • Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, as necessary, tighten the roof rack fasteners, free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin June 1, 2017. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-444-1074.

Various 2017 Toyota Vehicles

  • Number of vehicles affected: 409
  • Issue: The recall affects certain 2017 4Runner, 86, Avalon, Camry, Camry Hybrid, Corolla, Corolla iM, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, Prius, Prius C, RAV4, RAV4 Hybrid, Sienna, and Yaris vehicles. The spare tire air pressure was not adjusted to the proper pressure as stated on the tire pressure label.
  • Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the spare tires, adjusting their pressure as necessary, free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin June 1, 2017. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-444-1074.

2012-2014 Volkswagen Passat

  • Number of vehicles affected: 84,262
  • Issue: The vehicle's underbody heat shield may not be long enough to protect the right half-shaft grease boot from heat, potentially resulting in a grease leak.
  • Remedy: VW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driveshaft heat shield free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin in July 2017. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298.
