Recall Roundup: 2011 Hyundai Sonata Recalled for Air Bag Control Unit Short Circuit

During the past week, various manufacturers, including Ford Motor Co. (Ford), Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai), Jaguar Land Rover North America (Jaguar Land Rover), and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) recalled more than 167,000 light passenger vehicles. The largest recall comes from Hyundai, and affects 154,753 Sonata sedans from the 2011 model year.

Details for each safety recall follow, in alphabetical order by car brand.

2017-2018 Ford Taurus
  • Number of vehicles affected: 2,100
  • Issue: The key may be able to be removed from the ignition when the transmission is not in the “Park” position.
  • Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the shifter assembly free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin March 19, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332.

2011 Hyundai Sonata

  • Number of vehicles affected: 154,753
  • Issue: In the event of a crash, the air bag control unit (ACU) may short circuit, preventing the frontal air bags, seat belt pre-tensioners, and side air bags from deploying.
  • Remedy: The remedy for this recall is still under development.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin April 20, 2018. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460.

2018 Jaguar E-Pace

  • Number of vehicles affected: 41
  • Issue: The brackets that secure the front brake hoses may not have been installed properly, allowing the front brake hoses to contact the tires, possibly resulting in a brake fluid leak.
  • Remedy: Jaguar will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the front brake hose brackets, replacing any that do not provide sufficient clearance, free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin April 23, 2018. Owners may contact Jaguar customer service at 1-800-452-4827.

2017 Jeep Renegade

  • Number of vehicles affected: 9
  • Issue: The affected vehicles are equipped with a 2.4-liter engine. These vehicles may be equipped with a cracked oil pump housing/balance shaft module (BSM), which can cause the oil pump to fail and the engine to stall.
  • Remedy: FCA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the oil pump for its production information, and replace the BSM as necessary, free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin April 13, 2018. Owners may contact FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403.

2018 Land Rover Range Rover Velar

  • Number of vehicles affected: 7,090
  • Issue: The air inlet door linkages for the ventilation system may detach, preventing the system from clearing fog or condensation from the windshield and windows.
  • Remedy: Land Rover will notify owners, and dealers will update the vehicle software to control the length of movement of the ventilation actuator arm free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin April 23, 2018. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837.
  • Manufacturer recall number: N143
  • NHTSA recall number: 18V139000


2018 Ram ProMaster City

  • Number of vehicles affected: 3,460
  • Issue: The tire placards on these vehicles may indicate an incorrect total number of occupants allowed.
  • Remedy: FCA will notify owners, and dealers will install a corrected tire placard free of charge.
  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin April 13, 2018. Owners may contact FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403.
