New 2013 Acura ILX Named a Top Safety Pick by the IIHS

By Jeff Youngs, September 10, 2012
In crash tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the new 2013 Acura ILX receives a Top Safety Pick designation as a result of top rating of "Good" in all four tests used for 2013 models: the moderate overlap frontal-impact crash test, side-impact crash test, rear-impact whiplash prevention test, and roof crush strength test.

The IIHS did not subject the ILX to its new small overlap frontal-impact test procedure, and starting in 2014, a "Good" rating in this evaluation will also be required to achieve Top Safety Pick status.

The Acura ILX, which is based on the Honda Civic platform, shares engines and transmission with Honda but offers different styling inside and out, as well as unique mechanical tuning. Buyers can select one of three engine types: a 150-horsepower 2.0-liter 4-cylinder, 201-horsepower 2.4-liter 4-cylinder, or a gas-electric hybrid, all of which can be upgraded with a choice of Premium or Technology option packages.

In addition to a standard suite of safety features including 6 air bags, 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes with brake assist, traction control, and stability control, the Acura ILX can be equipped with a reversing camera system.

Please note that IIHS crash-test scores are valid and applicable only when compared to other models in the same weight class.
