Mercedes-Benz Recalls Numerous Models over Fire Concern

By Jeff Youngs, December 18, 2012
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that Mercedes-Benz is recalling numerous models because their original equipment fuel filter flanges may crack when operated at high temperatures, producing a fuel leak and a possible fire in the presence of an ignition source. The affected models include: C300, C300 4Matic, CL550 4Matic, CL63 AMG, E350, GLK350, GLK350 4Matic, S400 Hybrid, S550, S550 4Matic, and S63 AMG.

All 5,800 units of the affected models were built between April 18, 2011 and July 12, 2011, and are 2011 model-year and 2012 model-year vehicles. Dealers will replace the fuel filter free of charge.

The NHTSA Campaign ID number for this recall is 12V557000, and concerned owners can contact Mercedes-Benz at 1-800-367-6372.
