Honda Ignition Switch Recall Affects More than 800,000 Vehicles

Honda Ignition Switch Recall Affects More than 800,000 Vehicles

By Jeff Youngs, December 19, 2012
Honda is recalling 807,161 units of the 2003-2006 Acura MDX crossover SUV and 2003-2004 Honda Odyssey minivan to install an updated transmission shift interlock lever and, if necessary, replace the ignition switch at no charge to vehicle owners.

The problem is that the ignition switch's interlock lever could deform, allowing the defeat of the transmission's shift interlock system. If the vehicle owner removes the ignition key and the transmission's shift interlock system is disengaged, the MDX or Odyssey could roll away when unattended, leading to a crash.

Honda plans to begin repairing vehicles on February 7, 2013. In the interim, concerned owners can contact Honda by calling 1-800-999-1009. The Honda recall campaign numbers are S73 and S74, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Campaign ID number is 12V573000.
