Dodge Recalls Ram and Dakota for Axle Problem

Dodge Recalls Ram and Dakota for Axle Problem

By Jeff Youngs, October 16, 2012
Owners of 2009-2010 Dodge Ram 1500 and Dodge Dakota vehicles may receive a recall notice in the mail, advising them to visit a dealership to have the rear axle pinion nut inspected. Not all trucks of this vintage are affected by the recall, which is issued for 44,300 vehicles built between July 1, 2009, and November 30, 2009.

The problem is that the rear axle pinion nut could loosen, causing the rear axle to lock up without warning, resulting in a loss of driver control and the vehicle to crash. Dodge dealers will install a pinion nut retainer, starting in November of 2012.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) campaign ID number for this recall is 12V474000, and concerned Ram 1500 and Dakota owners can contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753.
