2014 Chevrolet Cruze Diesel Fuel Economy Rating Sets New Benchmark

By Jeff Youngs, April 26, 2013
The EPA has established highway fuel-economy ratings for the new 2014 Chevy Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel, and the automaker is reporting that the car will return 46 mpg on the highway, more than any non-hybrid vehicle on sale in the United States, giving the 2014 Cruze Diesel a highway driving range of more than 700 miles.

"We harnessed generations of diesel expertise to adapt our world-class global engine for the North American market," said Gary Altman, chief engineer, Chevrolet Cruze Diesel. "The Cruze Diesel is the best diesel passenger car out there. Chevrolet is redefining the meaning of great fuel economy with this car."

At its heart, the 2014 Chevy Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel is equipped with a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine capable of generating 148 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque. An overboost feature delivers short bursts of extra torque to assist when merging with fast-moving traffic, up to 280 lb.-ft. By comparison, a standard Cruze's turbocharged gas engine generates 138 horsepower and 148 lb.-ft. of torque. Chevrolet says the Cruze Diesel offers a zero-to-60 acceleration time of 8.6 seconds.

When the 2014 Chevy Cruze Diesel goes on sale this spring in selected cities and then nationally and in Canada in the fall of 2013, it will cost $25,695, including an $810 destination charge. Standard equipment includes leather seats, a Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system, 17-inch aluminum wheels, and free scheduled maintenance for the first 2 years of ownership. Globally, Chevrolet has already sold 33,000 Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel models.
