2019 Cadillac CT6 V-Sport Preview

Cadillac is freshening its flagship sedan, the CT6, for the 2019 model year, and is using the vehicle to debut a new twin-turbocharged V8 engine, an upgraded version of its infotainment system, and a new model series strategy that it will roll out to its other cars.
Drawing upon styling cues first seen on Cadillac’s Escala concept vehicle, the CT6 receives new front and rear styling, revised lighting, and new wheels for 2019. In V-Sport trim, the car sports an aggressive mesh grille, darkened trim details, and a unique set of 20-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in performance tires.
Often criticized, the Cadillac User Experience (CUE) infotainment system has benefitted from continuous improvement over the years. For 2019, in the freshened CT6, it gains a significant overhaul that brings faster response times, improved voice recognition, better graphics, over-the-air software updates, and more.
Importantly, Cadillac is supplying a new way for drivers to interact with the CUE system. Controls are added to the CT6’s center console, supplying easy access to stereo volume and tuning adjustment, shortcut buttons for CUE system menus, and a rotary dial for navigating the screen. If this sounds familiar, you’re not mistaken. This is how Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz approach their infotainment system controls.
Under the Hood:
In V-Sport trim, the 2019 Cadillac CT6 makes use of a new twin-turbocharged 4.2-liter V8 engine. It makes 550 horsepower and 627 lb.-ft. of torque, which is transferred to all four of the car’s wheels through a 10-speed automatic transmission.
In order to make best use of the power, Cadillac bestows upon the CT6 V-Sport a full performance massage. Highlights include a mechanical limited slip rear differential, re-tuned steering and suspension, upgraded braking components, and an active valve exhaust system.
Drivers can select a new Track mode in order to maximize the CT6 V-Sport’s performance. This adjusts the standard all-wheel-drive system’s torque bias for sportier dynamic characteristics, and also calibrates the steering, the Magnetic Ride Control suspension, the stability control system, and the active valve exhaust system for more aggressive driving. An Active Rear Steer function also activates in Track mode.
Cadillac has announced no safety upgrades for the 2019 CT6. Therefore, in addition to the safety-related features offered through OnStar subscription services, the car will continue to offer a full suite of driver assistance and collision avoidance technologies.
Highlights include front pedestrian braking and rear pedestrian detection, as well as a night vision system that can spot people and large animals in the road before you do. The CT6 also continues to offer a Safety Alert Seat, which vibrates to get the driver’s attention when a potential safety-related problem exists.
In addition to the upgraded CUE infotainment system, the new CT6 receives a larger wireless device charging pad in order to make it compatible with a wider variety of smartphone designs. Navigation is also cloud-connected for improved real-time traffic and destination routing functions, and rear seat entertainment is an option complete with USB, HDMI, and Wi-Fi device connectivity.
An updated version of Cadillac’s rear view camera technology adds the ability to zoom and tilt the camera to improve the view. The surround view camera system gains a new recording function. You can record while driving, or set the system to start recording if the car’s security system is activated.
Super Cruise continues as an option for the 2019 CT6, though Cadillac says it will not be offered for the V-Sport version of the car. Automatic parking assist does more than just steer the CT6 into an open space; it also takes care of the braking.
