Introduction
The 2015 Ford Taurus is a full-size, 4-door family sedan that the automaker claims is the most fuel-efficient vehicle in its market segment aside from hybrid models from competing automakers.

Exterior Features
Last redesigned for the 2010 model year, the current version of the Taurus celebrates its sixth year on the market by adding standard equipment to all versions of the car. In terms of exterior features, those changes include rear park-assist sensors for the Taurus SEL, power sunroof for the Taurus Limited, and standard 20-in. aluminum wheels for the performance-tuned Super High Output (SHO) variant. New colors for 2015 include Bronze Fire, Caribou (brown), and Magnetic (dark gray).

Interior Features
For 2015, most Taurus trim levels add new standard equipment for the cabin. The most affordable version, the Taurus SE, now includes Ford's Sync smartphone connectivity technology as well as a reversing camera. The Taurus SEL now has a passive keyless access system with push-button engine starting, while the Taurus Limited gains power-adjustable pedals with memory settings.

Optional Features
Depending on the trim level selected, the 2015 Taurus offers a number of features designed to enhance comfort levels. They include leather seats and dual-zone automatic climate control, and extend to heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and a heated steering wheel. Buyers can also choose a set of multi-contour front seats with a massage feature.

In addition to these upgrades, the 2015 Taurus is offered with a navigation system that includes access to real-time traffic reports and Travel Link services, as well as a premium audio system. An optional Active Park Assist feature helps the driver with parallel parking, steering the car while they operate the transmission and foot pedals.

Under the Hood
As was true for the 2014 model, the 2015 Taurus is equipped with a standard 288-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 engine that delivers power to the car's front wheels through a 6-speed automatic transmission. An all-wheel-drive (AWD) system is optional with this engine as long as the buyer first chooses SEL or Limited trim.

The SE, SEL, and Limited versions can be optioned with a turbocharged, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine. Offered only for vehicles equipped with front-wheel drive (FWD), this EcoBoost engine is designed to provide greater fuel economy without a loss of performance, according to Ford. While it is not quite as strong in terms of horsepower, down by 48 horsepower compared with the standard V-6 engine, it does make peak horsepower lower in the rev range, helping acceleration. Plus, the turbocharged EcoBoost engine makes 16 lb.-ft. more torque than the V-6, and at lower rpm across a broader power curve.

Choose the Taurus SHO for a twin-turbocharged, 3.5-liter V-6 engine. It generates 365 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque, the latter peaking between 1,500 and 5,000 rpm. AWD is standard with this engine.

Safety
Thanks to Ford's addition of a reversing camera and Sync connectivity with 911 Assist technology as standard equipment for 2015, the Taurus is safer than ever. With 911 Assist, the Taurus can automatically dial out to emergency services personnel following an air bag deployment, provided that a smartphone is successfully paired to the system and is aboard the vehicle at the time of impact.

As far as crash tests are concerned, the Taurus earns a 5-star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has not subjected this model to its small overlap frontal-impact test, but in other assessments the 2015 Taurus earns the highest rating of "Good."

Technology
Every 2015 Taurus is equipped with torque-vectoring control and curve control technologies, each of which is designed to make the car handle better. MyKey programmable features are standard, too, including a Belt Minder warning chime that sounds repeatedly until seat belts are fastened in all locations where a person is sitting. MyKey also allows the car's owner to program maximum speed and stereo volume limits.

Available as options on certain trim levels, a blind-spot information system with cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping alert and lane-keeping aid system, and an adaptive cruise control system with forward-collision warning and brake support are designed to help the Taurus' driver to avoid accidents.
