2013 Audi TT Preview

The Audi TT is a 2-door luxury sports car available as either a 4-seat hatchback coupe or a 2-seat roadster (convertible). The TTS is a higher-performance version, and the TT RS, which is offered only as a hatchback coupe, is the highest-performance version of the three. The TT's various iterations are offered in two trim levels: Premium Plus and Prestige. Its main competitors include the BMW Z4, Mercedes-Benz SLK, and Porsche Boxster. The TT offers many options, particularly in the interior and the drivetrain.
The 2013 TT is available in seven colors. White and black are standard; other colors are offered at an extra charge. The exterior of the TT has been slightly restyled for 2013, but retains its distinctive profile. The Premium Plus trim level features rain-sensing wipers, auto-dimming exterior side mirrors, automatic xenon headlights, LED daytime running lights, an LED turn indicator light on the side mirrors, and an adaptive rear spoiler with manual override that deploys at 75 mph and retracts at 50 mph. Standard are18-inch wheels (in a choice of two finishes) with summer performance tires, which can be upgraded to 19-inches. The 19-inch wheels are standard on the Prestige trim. The Prestige trim also adds adaptive headlights that pivot up to 15 degrees on turns.
The Audi TT features a choice of nine styles of leather upholstery. Black or grey leather/Alcantara surfaces are standard; for an extra charge, the buyer can choose Nappa leather seats in black, grey, red, beige, or brown, baseball-stitched optic leather seats in Madras brown, or black leather/Alcantara S line seats. Samoa Orange inserts are available with the Samoa Orange exterior paint. The TTS adds two bi-color interior options. The seats include power lumbar support, extendable thigh support, integrated head restraints, and prominent side bolsters. Bluetooth connectivity, automatic climate control, and a 9-speaker audio system with CD player and satellite radio are standard. Optional features include a flat-bottom 3-spoke multifunction sport steering wheel with shift paddles, brushed aluminum inlays, and LED interior lighting. The top-of-the-line Prestige trim adds upgraded leather upholstery, interior ambient lighting package, navigation system, upgraded audio system, and heated seats. Trunk space in the coupe is 13.1 cubic feet, and expands to 24.7 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down. The roadster provides 8.8 cubic feet of trunk space.
The Audi Navigation Plus package of options includes real-time traffic and 6-disc CD changer, with or without iPod integration package. The S line package includes a headlight washer system, special Singleframe grille, front and rear bumpers, rocker panels, and door sill blades; a multifunction sport steering wheel, and other upgrades. The S line Competition package adds a sport suspension (20mm lower ride height), fixed rear spoiler in gloss black, other black exterior elements, and more.
Under the Hood
Both the TT Coupe and TT Roadster are fitted with a turbocharged, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine rated at 211 horsepower. All-wheel drive and a 6-speed, dual-clutch, automated manual transmission are standard. The TTS features a 265-horsepower, intercooled turbo version of that engine, while the TT RS features a 2.5-liter, 360-horsepower I-5 engine that works with a 6-speed manual transmission with overdrive.
EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 Audi TT and TT RS coupe and roadster are:
- TT: 22/31/26 mpg (city/highway/combined)
- TT RS: 18/25/20 mpg
Standard safety features on the 2013 Audi TT include anti-lock disc brakes, traction control, front-seat and rear-seat side air bags and front knee air bags. Other safety features are optional.
To date, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) have not yet rated the Audi TT for crashworthiness.
Audi's proprietary Quattro AWD system combines with electromechanical speed-sensitive power steering. The coupe's spaceframe is 69% aluminum and 31% steel, while the roadster is slightly heavier, with 42% steel, but both are engineered with most of the steel to the rear to offset the engine in the front for maximum stability and balance, the automaker says.
