Introduction
The Audi A5 is a midsize 2-door vehicle that's available as a hardtop (A5 Coupe) or a convertible (A5 Cabriolet). It's a sporty luxury model based on the Volkswagen B platform, which it also shares with the Audi A4 sedan. The A5 is offered in three trim levels: Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige. The A5 competes mainly with the BMW 3 Series Coupe, Infiniti G37, and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe. All A5 Coupes feature all-wheel drive and a turbocharged engine.

Exterior Features
The 2013 A5 is available in 11 colors: white, black, and red are standard; other colors are offered at an extra charge. The A5 Cabriolet features a power soft top that's available in black or brown. The Coupe features a tilt-only sunroof. The exterior of the A5 has been subtly restyled for 2013, but the basic look remains the same. The Premium (base) trim features rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlights, a 5-link front suspension, and 18-inch alloy wheels. The Premium Plus trim includes bi-xenon headlights, LED running lights and taillights, and upgraded exterior trim. The Prestige trim adds adaptive headlights, and keyless entry and ignition.

Interior Features
The steering wheel and the instrument cluster of the 2013 A5 have been slightly redesigned, and the multi-media interface (MMI) infotainment system has been revised. The Premium trim level of the A5 includes leather upholstery, power accessories (including 8-way adjustable front seats), sunroof, cruise control, automatic climate control, and a 10-speaker CD audio system. (Black, grey, beige, and brown leather are available.) The Premium Plus trim adds upgraded lighting, Bluetooth connectivity, automated 3-zone climate control, and heated front seats. The Prestige trim adds keyless entry and ignition, navigation package, Audi Side Assist, and a premium Bang & Olufsen sound system. The trunk of the Coupe measures 13.5 cubic feet, while the Cabriolet with the top down still has 11.4 cubic feet of trunk space.

Optional Features
The Comfort package includes 4-way power lumbar adjustment for the front seats, ventilated and heated front seats, neck-level heating system, and perforated Milano leather upholstery. The Sport package (available on the Premium Plus and Prestige trims) includes a firmer suspension, and sport seats with power lumbar support and 4-way adjustment. The S line package (available with the Prestige trim) includes 4-way power lumbar adjustment for the front seats, body-colored doorsill blades, S line embossed Leather/Alcantara seats, 19-inch, 5-segment-spoke design wheels with 255/35 summer tires, S line front and rear bumpers and side sills, aluminum doorsill inlays, brushed aluminum inlays, S line 3-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel (includes shift paddles with automatic), black cloth headliner, S line exterior emblem, front sport seats, and sport suspension. The Driver Assist package features Audi drive select, dynamic steering, and adaptive cruise control. Three styles of wood interior trim are available on all A5s. Many features that are standard on the upper trims are available (mainly in packages) on the lower trims.

Under the Hood
The Audi A5's standard power plant is a 2.0-liter, turbocharged 4-cylinder engine rated at 211 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque. The standard A5 Coupe models feature a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed Tiptronic transmission, as well as Audi's proprietary quattro all-wheel drive (AWD). The Cabriolet is available in front-wheel drive (FWD) with continuously variable transmission or in AWD with the 8-speed Tiptronic.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy figures for the 2013 Audi A5 are:

  • A5 Cabriolet with FWD: 24/31/26 mpg (city/highway/combined)
  • A5 Cabriolet with AWD: 20/30/24 mpg
  • A5 Coupe with manual transmission: 22/32/26 mpg
  • A5 Coupe with automatic transmission: 20/29/24 mpg

Safety
Standard safety features on the 2013 Audi A5 include anti-lock disc brakes, traction control, front-seat and rear-seat side air bags, front knee air bags, and side curtain air bags. Many other safety features are optional. To date, neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has conducted safety tests on the 2013 Audi A5.

Technology
Audi MMI Navigation plus features a 7-inch screen, voice control, CD and DVD compatibility, and dual SD memory card slots. New features for 2013 include Bluetooth streaming audio and Audi Connect, which adds Google search and Google Earth map overlays. Audi's proprietary quattro AWD combines with electromechanical speed-sensitive power steering. The dynamic cornering lights pivot to provide optimum illumination on turns.
