Introduction
BMW carved outa new niche in 2008 with the introduction of the X6 Sports ActivityCoupe. Like the X5 on which itwas based, the new 4-passenger, luxury-oriented X6 was designed forpremium handling, performance, efficiency, practicality andversatility. Sportier than its 5-passenger cousin, and fitted with atwin-turbo 6- or 8-cylinder powerplant, all X6 models offered standardfull-time all-wheel drive (AWD) for better control during inclementweather and to deliver car-like handling.

Raising the bar on performance, BMW has introduced the X6 M. Targeteddirectly at the enthusiast, the all-new X6 M is fitted with a powerfultwin-turbo engine, oversize wheels, track suspension, body kit, andother cosmetic upgrades.

Every 2010 BMW X6 M includes a 4-year/50,000-mile new-vehicle limitedwarranty and a 4-year/unlimited mileage membership in the BMW AssistSafety Plan. The BMW Maintenance Program includes allfactory-recommended maintenance items for the first 4-year/50,000-mileperiod of ownership.

ModelLineup
The all-new 2010 X6 M will join BMW's X6 lineup as a third model, alongside the X6 xDrive35i and the X6 xDrive50i. All X6 M modelsfeature the full complement of standard luxury amenities and poweraccessories found on the standard X6 lineup. In addition, the X6 Mfeatures a special "M cockpit" with a revised instrument clusterfeaturing white display backlighting and a variable redline. Hardware
Offering more performance than any other X6 in the lineup, the X6 Mfeatures a newly-developed twin-turbo, 4.4-liter V-8 engine delivering555 hp and 500 lb.-ft. of torque. It is mated to a special 6-speed MSports automatic transmission with shift paddles on the steering wheel.According to BMW, the new powerplant will accelerate theall-wheel-drive X6 M to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds.

Standard on all X6 M models is a specially-tuned version of BMW'sxDrive, a full-time AWD system that electronically varies front/reartorque split and traction control to offer optimal grip under variedroad conditions. With near perfect weight distribution, the X6 Mfeatures a fully independent M-tuned suspension with Electronic DampingControl (EDC) and Active Roll Stabilization (ARS) engineered forenhanced agility on paved roads. The steering is BMW's Servotronicpower steering offering precisely controlled steering responsethroughout the performance envelope. Note that the X6 M is not designedfor off-road use; therefore it is not equipped with a transmission "lowrange" or locking differentials.

The brakes are giant 4-piston fixed calipers at the front (with15.6-inch rotors), and floating calipers at the rear (with 15.2-inchrotors). The X6 M also features unique staggered-size tires. The wheelsare 20-inch aluminum alloy on all four corners, with performance275/40R20 tires up front and 315/35R20 tires in the rear.

2010 BMW X6 MSafety
BMW engineered the X6 M for supreme agility on the street with maximumcrash safety if the need arises. All models of the X6 M offer driverand passenger front air bags and hip/thorax air bags. BMW's HeadProtection System, curtain-type air bags extending down the sides ofthe passenger compartment, protect outboard passengers. All seatsfeature 3-point inertia-reel seat belts with belt tensioners andbelt-force limiters, and crash-activated headrests are designed toprevent cervical spine injury in the event of a collision from behind. All restraint systems are monitored by a center electronic safety"brain" evaluating the type and severity of the collision, and areengineered to activate the curtain air bags and belt tensioners if arollover is imminent. The long list of standard active safety featuresalso includes anti-lock brakes (ABS), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC),Dynamic Traction Control, Trailer Stability Control, Hill DescentControl, Cornering Brake Control, and Brake Fading Compensation.

The BMW X6 M has not been crash tested by the Insurance Institute forHighway Safety (IIHS)or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Technology
To minimize energy wasted while driving, BMW engineers developedinnovative energy-management systems featured on the 2010 BMW X6 M.These include an on-demand fuel pump, an on-demand compressor for theair conditioner, and a flow-controlled supply of hydraulic fluid forthe Active Roll Stabilization system. All of these systems only receivepower when it is needed-allowing the engine to send all available powerto the wheels. This not only improves performance, but it increasesfuel economy and reduces emissions, according to the automaker. As aresult, BMW claims, the X6 M is able to meet US LEV II standards andthe EU5 standards in Europe.
