And while Mitsubishi refers to the Outlander GT Prototype as a "design study," the automaker also states that the vehicle "infuses performance and design inspiration from Mitsubishi's Lancer sport sedans and provides clear indicators of the future of Outlander." That makes it a pretty sure bet the Outlander GT will see production for the 2010 model year.

Wearing a fresh look for 2009, the Galant gains new front and rear sheetmetal and gets a modified lineup. Made in the United States, the front-wheel-drive Galant competes against the major midsize sedans: Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and Nissan Altima. A new 4-cylinder Sport Edition joins the 2009 lineup, along with a Sport V6. At the same time, Mitsubishi is abandoning the bottom-rung DE trim level. Last year, the Galant lineup slimmed down as well, losing the prior SE and GTS versions. Galants are produced in Normal, IL, along with Mitsubishi's Eclipse and Endeavor models. Sales of the 2009 Galant begin in February 2008.

In 2008, the V-6 engine generated 263 hp in coup_s, or 260 hp in convertibles. A new dual-exhaust finisher for the GT accounts for the 2-hp boost and promises more powerful sound. Known for its sporty nature, the Eclipse has been part of Mitsubishi's lineup since the 1990 model year. A while back, Eclipses came with front-drive or all-wheel drive. Front-wheel drive is the only choice now. Both body styles can seat 4 passengers. Like Mitsubishi's Galant sedan and Endeavor SUV, Eclipses are manufactured in Normal, IL.

Born of World Rally Championship competition and called the Lancer Evolution (Evo for short), the car didn't make it to the United States until the 2003 model year. The first version of the Evo to come to the U.S. was known by enthusiasts as the Evo VIII, as it was in its eighth generation. Thanks to engine upgrades and styling updates, the car was known as the Evo IX for the 2006 model year.
