Top-Ranked Cars, Trucks, and SUVs in the J.D. Power 2015 U.S. APEAL Study

A total of 26 models receive an award in the J.D. Power 2015 U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study,SM which measures customer satisfaction with vehicle performance and design after 90 days of ownership. Displayed in alphabetical order by make and model on the pages that follow, these are the cars, trucks, SUVs, and vans that rank highest in their respective vehicle segments in the 2015 U.S. APEAL Study.





2015 Audi A3
In the Small Premium Car segment of the APEAL Study, a trio of German luxury models sits atop the rankings. The Audi A3 is the top-ranked model for 2015, followed by the BMW 2 Series and the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class, which rank second and third, respectively. The A3, redesigned for 2015, is available as a sedan or a convertible with several trim and powertrain choices.




2015 Audi Q3
In the Small Premium SUV segment, the Audi Q3 is the top-ranked model for 2015, followed by the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque and the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class, which rank second and third, respectively. The Q3, new for 2015, is based on the same vehicle architecture as the Audi A3.




2015 BMW 4 Series
In the Compact Premium Car segment, the BMW 4 Series is the top-ranked model for 2015, followed by the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and the Lexus RC, which rank second and third, respectively. The 4 Series is available as a 2-door coupe, 2-door convertible, or a 5-door hatchback called the Gran Coupe.




2015 BMW 6 Series
In the Midsize Premium Car segment, the BMW 6 Series is the top-ranked model for 2015, followed by the Audi A7 and the Infiniti Q70, which rank second and third, respectively. The 6 Series is offered in 2-door coupe or convertible body styles, and as a 4-door sedan called the Gran Coupe.




2015 Chevrolet Colorado
In the Midsize Pickup segment, the Chevrolet Colorado is the top-ranked model for 2015, followed by the second-ranked GMC Canyon. The Colorado and Canyon are the only models to outperform the segment average. New in 2015, the Colorado is available in extended cab or crew cab styles with a 4-cylinder or V-6 engine.




2015 Chevrolet Corvette
In the Midsize Premium Sporty Car segment, the Chevrolet Corvette is the top-ranked model for 2015, followed by the second-ranked Porsche 911. The Corvette and 911 are the only models to outperform the segment average. A performance-oriented Z06 model joined the lineup for 2015 and is available in either coupe or convertible body styles.




2015 Chevrolet Sonic
In the Small Car segment, the Chevrolet Sonic is the top-ranked model for 2015, followed by the Kia Rio and the Ford Fiesta, which rank second and third, respectively. Chevrolet offers the Sonic as a 4-door sedan or a 5-door hatchback.




2015 Dodge Challenger
In the Midsize Sporty Car segment, the Dodge Challenger is the top-ranked model for 2015, followed by the Ford Mustang. The Challenger and Mustang are the only models to outperform the segment average. Dodge made over the Challenger for 2015 and introduced the 707-horsepower Challenger Hellcat version.




2015 Dodge Charger
In the Large Car segment, the Dodge Charger is the top-ranked model for 2015, followed by the second-ranked Chevrolet Impala and both the Chrysler 300 and Toyota Avalon, which rank third (in a tie) in this year's APEAL Study. Dodge made over the Charger for 2015 and introduced the 707-horsepower Charger Hellcat version.




2015 Fiat 500
In the City Car segment, the Fiat 500 is the top-ranked model for 2015, and is the only model to outperform the segment average in this year's APEAL Study. The 500 is available with or without a fabric folding roof, as an electric car called the 500e, and in sporty Abarth trim.




2015 Ford C-Max
In the Compact Multi-Purpose Vehicle segment, the Ford C-Max is the top-ranked model for 2015, followed by the Kia Soul, which ranks second. The C-Max and Soul are the only models to outperform the segment average. The C-Max is offered with a gas-electric or a plug-in gas-electric hybrid powertrain.




2015 Ford Expedition
In the Large SUV segment--long a domestic stronghold--the Ford Expedition is the top-ranked model for 2015, followed by the Chevrolet Tahoe and the GMC Yukon, which rank second and third, respectively. Ford made over the Expedition for 2015, installing a new turbocharged engine, improving towing capacity, adding technology, and debuting a new luxury-oriented trim level.




2015 Ford F-150
In the Large Light Duty Pickup segment--another bastion of the U.S. auto industry--the Ford F-150 is the top-ranked model for 2015, followed by the Ram 1500 and the GMC Sierra 1500, which rank second and third, respectively. Completely redesigned, the 2015 F-150 features aluminum body panels on a steel frame combined with the latest in safety and infotainment technologies, as well as a wide range of engine choices.




2015 GMC Sierra HD
In the Large Heavy Duty Pickup segment, the GMC Sierra HD is the top-ranked model for 2015, followed by the Chevrolet Silverado HD and Ford Super Duty, which tie as the second-highest-ranked nameplates in this year's APEAL Study. GMC completely redesigned the Sierra HD for 2015, giving the truck upgraded performance, utility, and technology.




2015 Infiniti QX80
In the Large Premium SUV segment, the Infiniti QX80 is the top-ranked model for 2015, followed by the Land Rover Range Rover and the Lincoln Navigator, which rank second and third, respectively. Infiniti upgraded the QX80 for 2015, adding new safety systems, revised styling and details, and a Limited trim package.




2015 Kia Sedona
In the Minivan segment, the Kia Sedona is the top-ranked model for 2015, followed by the Honda Odyssey and the Toyota Sienna, which rank second and third, respectively. Completely redesigned for 2015, the Sedona offers unique Slide-N-Stow seating and the latest safety and infotainment technologies.




2015 Mazda CX-5
In the Compact SUV segment, the Mazda CX-5 is the top-ranked model for 2015, followed by the GMC Terrain and the Subaru Forester, which rank second and third, respectively. The CX-5 is available in Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring levels of trim, and all-wheel drive is optional.




2015 Mazda 6
In the Midsize Sedan segment, the Mazda 6 is the top-ranked model for 2015, followed by the Hyundai Sonata and Nissan Altima in the No. 2 rank position (in a tie). The Mazda 6 is offered in Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring trim levels.




2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class
In the Large Premium Car segment, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class is the top-ranked model for 2015 and is the only nameplate to rank higher than segment average in this year's study. This year, the S-Class lineup expanded with a new 2-door coupe model and a plug-in hybrid version.




2015 Mini Cooper
In the Compact Sporty Car segment, the Mini Cooper is the top-ranked model for 2015 and is the only nameplate to rank higher than segment average. The Cooper is available in a multitude of configurations, including a sporty John Cooper Works version, each custom-tailored to buyer preferences. A new 4-door Hardtop model arrived for 2015.




2015 Mini Countryman
In the Small SUV segment, the Mini Countryman is the top-ranked model for 2015, followed by the Volkswagen Tiguan and the Buick Encore, which rank second and third, respectively. Mini made minor changes to the Countryman this year, adding a Park Lane special edition in addition to standard, Cooper S, and John Cooper Works versions.




2015 Nissan Murano
In the Midsize SUV segment, the Nissan Murano is the top-ranked model for 2015, followed by the Toyota Highlander and the Buick Enclave, which rank second and third, respectively. Redesigned for 2015, the Murano is available in S, SV, SL, and Platinum trim levels, each featuring a 3.5-liter V-6 engine and front-wheel or all-wheel drive.




2015 Porsche Cayenne
In the Midsize Premium SUV segment, the Porsche Cayenne is the top-ranked model for 2015, followed by the second-ranked BMW X5 and both the Audi Q7 and BMW X6 in the No. 3 rank position (in a tie). Substantially updated for 2015, the Cayenne is offered in standard, S, Turbo, Diesel, and S E-Hybrid variants.




2015 Porsche Cayman
In the Compact Premium Sporty Car segment, the Porsche Cayman is the top-ranked model for 2015, followed by the Porsche Boxster in the No. 2 rank position. The Cayman and Boxster are the only models to outperform the segment average. A more powerful GTS version of the Cayman, new for 2015, joined the existing standard and Cayman S versions.




2015 Porsche Macan
In the Compact Premium SUV segment, the Porsche Macan is the top-ranked model for 2015, followed by the BMW X4 and the Audi Q5, which rank second and third, respectively. The Macan, new for 2015, serves as the entry point to the Porsche SUV lineup. It is available in S and Turbo trim levels.




2015 Volkswagen Golf
In the Compact Car segment, the Volkswagen Golf is the top-ranked model for 2015, followed by the Subaru WRX and the Volkswagen Beetle, which rank second and third, respectively. Volkswagen redesigned the Golf for 2015, rolling it out in hatchback and wagon body styles with turbocharged gasoline or diesel engines. A sporty GTI, performance-tuned Golf R, and an electric eGolf are also available.
