VW Goes Retro with Limited-Edition 2016 Beetle Denim
By Philly Murtha, November 17, 2015
This week, Volkswagen announced production of a special-edition 2016 Beetle Denim model that honors the Beetle Jeans model from the 1970s. Only 2,000 of these unique Beetle compact cars with denim-like soft tops and retro interior design features will be produced. These “collector” cars can be ordered now and will arrive at dealerships early next year.
Equipped with 17-in. Heritage design wheels, the limited edition will come in two exterior colors—1,000 each in Pure White and Stonewashed Blue. The model’s convertible top is made from a Dark Blue textured fabric that resembles denim.
Since it’s a 2016 model, the Beetle Denim also will come with VW’s new MIB II color infotainment system with crisper graphics and higher resolution than the previous system. A 5.0-in. touch-screen display includes standard features such as an auxiliary input, SD card slots, a USB multimedia interface, smartphone connectivity, and Bluetooth. A rearview camera also is standard.
Through the first 10 months of 2015, Volkswagen has delivered 20,345 Beetles in the United States, down 24% from 25,247 units in the same period a year ago, according to data collected by J.D. Power and auto forecasting partner LMC Automotive.
