Volkswagen New Beetle Fender Edition Marries Music and Motoring

By Jeff Youngs, November 01, 2012
Did you ever want to strum a reverberating lick on a Fender Stratocaster? Now you can have the chance to drive a special Fender edition Beetle compact car that Volkswagen claims marries the world of rock and roll music and concert sound with the fun of motoring. Beginning in November, you'll have a chance to find one of these special-edition models at your local VW dealership.

The partnership between VW and Fender has produced a stylish Deep Black Pearl 2013 Beetle that has been outfitted with a Fender Premium Audio System. Powered by one of two turbo engine choices, the Beetle Fender Edition is equipped with 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels and is available in two versions, priced from $24,440 for the base model to $28,130 for a Sporty Turbo model.

The Beetle Fender Edition has brushed chrome mirrors, with the guitar maker's badging embedded on both sides of the car. The dashboard incorporates a sunburst logo tone inspired by the famous Fender guitar design. The Turbo models are fitted with sporty seats that are upholstered in V-Tex leatherette with cloth inserts.

The special feature of this new Beetle Fender Edition is its high-performance Fender Premium Audio System, which VW claims offers concert-quality audio with Panasonic speaker technology. The sound system includes a 10-channel amplifier providing 400 watts of power to four Fender Deluxe tweeters, two Fender Twin speakers, two Fender rear speakers, and one Fender Bassman subwoofer.

Unfortunately, a Fender Strat is not included with the car.
