Volkswagen to Debut 2018 Atlas SUV with R-Line Treatment in Detroit
This week, Volkswagen revealed that it will offer the sporty R-Line trim on its new 2018 Volkswagen Atlas midsize SUV that will debut at the 2017 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) next week in Detroit and will begin to reach VW dealer showrooms in the spring. The new package for the Atlas SUV, to be produced at Volkswagen’s Chattanooga, TN, plant, features sporty performance upgrades, including alloy wheels and stainless steel pedals. No pricing was released for the sporty package that will be offered later in the year.
VW’s Atlas R-Line can be configured to seat 7 in 3 rows and features sporty exterior and interior design elements. Volkswagen said in a statement that the R-Line package will enhance SE and SEL trims with larger 20-in. aluminum alloy twin-spoke wheels, R-Line badges, special front and rear bumpers with unique air intakes, a diffusor in gloss black, and side skirts.
Inside the cabin, the R-Line logo embellishes the start screen of VW’s infotainment system along with an R-Line steering wheel clip and stainless sport pedal covers. The Atlas model with R-Line enhancements will be offered with two optional engine choices: a 4-cylinder turbo that makes 235 horsepower or a peppier 3.6-liter V-6 engine that produces 276 horsepower. Both engines are mated with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The Atlas with R-Line package is available in front-wheel drive or 4Motion all-wheel drive as well. It will be showcased in Detroit when the 2017 NAIAS opens to the public on Saturday, Jan. 14.
