Toyota Debuts TRD Sport-Tuned 2018 Tundra, Sequoia Variants

By Philly Murtha, February 10, 2017

Two large Toyota trucks—the Tundra pickup and full-size Sequoia SUV—have been given sporty styling, tuning, and handling upgrades for 2018. Toyota will show off Toyota Racing Development’s (TRD) Sport Grade Tundra large pickup and Sequoia large SUV variants at the upcoming Chicago Auto Show. Both 2018 model variants feature styling, performance, utility, and comfort improvements created by TRD’s engineering pros. Both sporty variants will arrive at dealerships in September.

The 2018 Toyota Tundra TRD Sport, available in 4x4 and 4x2 drivelines in CrewMax and Double cab configurations, will be powered by a standard 5.7-liter V-8 engine that produces 381 horsepower. Performance enhancements include TRD Sport-tuned Bilstein shocks and TRD front and rear anti-sway bars. Refreshed on the outside, the sporty truck variant features refreshed color-keyed mirrors, front and rear bumpers, and hood scoop. The sporty truck rides on 20-in. alloy silver sport wheels. LED lighting systems have been enhanced, and the mesh grille includes a body-color surround. Five new exterior colors will be offered.

The Sequoia variant features the same performance enhancements as the Tundra and will be available in a full palette of exterior paint colors, with three new ones, including Midnight Black Metallic.

Some of the Sequoia TRD Sport’s exterior features include a new front grille and bumper grille insert, metallic black mirror caps, and special badging on the front doors and liftgate. Black fabric seating is standard with optional black leather captain’s chairs. TRD-branded features include a shift knob, sport floor mats, and sill protectors.

In addition, both of the new TRD Sport grade Tundra and Sequoia variants will come equipped with the new Toyota Safety Sense-P package that includes a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane-departure alert, auto high-beam headlights, and dynamic radar cruise control. All driver-assistance systems can be monitored through an upgraded display screen.
