Porsche Revives Sporty GTS Moniker with 2015 Cayenne Lineup
By Jeff Youngs, November 05, 2014
Porsche has announced a new, even sportier version of its midsize SUV, the Cayenne. The new 2015 Porsche Cayenne GTS earns its three-letter designation with a performance-oriented suspension, enhanced 3.6-liter V-6 twin-turbo engine, and driving dynamics and handling that are unmistakably Porsche-designed, according to the company.
The new Cayenne GTS features a stouter version of the new powertrain that Porsche recently installed in the Cayenne S. The GTS engine puts out 440 horsepower and 445 lb.-ft. of torque and allows the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds, according to Porsche. (The standard Cayenne has 300 horsepower and does 0 to 60 in a claimed 7.7 seconds.) A standard sport exhaust system produces a distinctive sound, Porsche says.
The standard Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) damping system results in the new GTS sitting 20 mm lower than the S model. Other standard features include the brakes from the Cayenne Turbo, along with brake calipers painted red in typical Turbo fashion.
Exterior features on the 2015 Cayenne GTS include the turbo nose fascia with large air intakes and the Sport Design package, which includes more contoured rocker panels and wheel arch extensions. All lettering is black, as are the 20-in. RS Spyder wheels, exhaust tailpipes, bi-xenon headlights' inner apertures, as well as the fittings of the tinted LED taillights. The front doors feature "GTS" lettering.
The interior of the new GTS features 8-way power-adjustable sport seats clad in leather/Alcantara upholstery, including GTS lettering on the headrests.
Whether in S or GTS guise, the new Cayenne provides a more comprehensive list of standard features than previous models. These include a new 8-speed Tiptronic S transmission with auto start/stop, bi-xenon headlights with 4-point LED daytime driving lights, and a multi-function sport steering wheel with paddle shifters.
The 2015 Cayenne and Cayenne GTS will be making their world premiere at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show on November 19. Sales of both SUVs will start in the United States at the end of February 2015. The MSRP for the new Cayenne is $58,300, while the Cayenne GTS is priced at $95,500; neither price includes a destination charge of $995.
