Nissan Retains Low Base Price for 2014 Versa Sub-Compact

Nissan Retains Low Base Price for 2014 Versa Sub-Compact

By Jeff Youngs, April 24, 2013
For a third consecutive year, Nissan Motor Co. has kept the starting list price (MSRP) of its second-generation Versa Sedan, now available at dealerships, at less than $12,000, which makes the 2014 model one of the lowest-priced models in the sub-compact car segment.

The 2014 Nissan Versa Sedan S, which begins at $11,990, is the most popular model among 15 sub-compact entries in the U.S. market through the first 3 months of the year, according to U.S. sales data collected by J.D. Power and Associates. Some 39,287 Versas have been delivered in the United States through March 2013, up from 35,195 unit sales in the same time frame of 2012. The Versa has outsold the next-highest-volume model--the Chevrolet Sonic--by more than 19,000 units this year.

The Versa, which is built on Nissan's front-wheel-drive (FWD) "V" platform, is available in four trim levels that range from the base price of $11,990 for the Versa Sedan S 5MT to $16,890 for the SL trim level with optional SL Tech package, which includes connectivity and navigation system features.

Enhancements for 2014 include a tachometer and low-rolling resistance tires on S models for fuel efficiency; standard 16-inch aluminum alloy wheels, 4.3-inch display audio and SiriusXM satellite radio for the SL models; and standard 60/40 split fold-down rear seat and key fob release for SV models. Updated interior treatments include high-gloss black B-pillars and improved seat cushions on the SV and SL trims. An optional SV Convenience package and SL Tech package also feature upgraded content.

All 2014 Nissan Versa Sedan models except for the base S model are equipped with the standard 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine delivering 109 horsepower mated with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) that Nissan says will achieve fuel-economy ratings of 40/31 mpg city/highway driving or 35 mpg combined.

The 2014 Nissan Versa is also available in a 5-door hatchback version. Trim levels and pricing for the Versa Sedan are as follows:

Versa Sedan S 5MT (5-speed manual transmission)         $11,990

Versa Sedan S 4AT (4-speed automatic transmission)    $12,990

Versa Sedan S+ CVT                                                $13,790

Versa Sedan SV CVT                                                $15,240

Versa Sedan SL CVT                                                $16,890
