Nissan Offers Facebook Users a Chance to Make a Video, Win a Prize

By Jeff Youngs, April 10, 2013
Beginning this week, Nissan has launched a new site "Impress with a Sentra" on Facebook to provide all users, including Nissan Sentra owners and fans, with a chance to create a personalized video that features the new car model with well-known actor Omar Epps, who plays Dr. Eric Foreman on the Fox medical drama "House." Visitors to the new Nissan Facebook site may also enter a contest before May 1 that offers the possibility to win one of three grand prizes--each worth $1,000.

The new Facebook site allows users to participate in an interactive experience on that will help them learn more about the Sentra and also let them make a customized video with the Sentra and actor Epps in one of three selected roles. Video programmers will be able to select Epps playing an adrenaline junkie, a romantically-inclined guy, or a dynamic business leader to introduce their video.

In addition to creating a personalized Facebook "first impression" that can be shared, participants will be able to enter a contest before a cutoff at noon (EDT) on Wednesday, May 1, to be eligible to win one of three grand prizes: a $1,000 Great American Days Experience gift card for two; a one-night stay at an upscale hotel with a romantic dinner for two; or a $1,000 gift card to Nordstrom or Brooks Brothers.

A Nissan official said the automaker developed this interactive Facebook site to build awareness for the new Nissan Sentra compact car, now in its seventh generation. Nissan, which claims that the new Sentra is the "most revolutionary design in the nameplate's 30-year history," also says in a statement that it plans to use the power of social media to target potential customers who are looking for a stylish and fuel-efficient small car--rated to achieve 34 miles per gallon in combined city and highway driving, according to the automaker.

Nissan's featured actor Omar Epps has appeared in movies such as "Major League II," "Love and Basketball," and "The Mod Squad," and played the roles of Dr. Dennis Gant on "ER" and Dr. Eric Foreman on the Fox medical show "House." He also is a songwriter and music producer.

Nissan Sentra sales through the first three months totaled 33,002, which is up from 31,763 unit sales in the same period of 2012, according to data collected by J.D. Power and Associates. March sales were stable with last year on a selling-day adjusted basis (13,965 unit sales vs. 14,092 unit sales in March 2012).
