Nissan Debuts Energetic 2017 Sentra SR Turbo at Miami Auto Show

By Philly Murtha, September 12, 2016
Nissan showed off several new 2017 models at the annual Miami International Auto Show that began last Saturday and continues through September 18. One new model was Japan’s second-largest automaker’s first turbocharged Sentra—the 2017 Nissan Sentra SR Turbo compact car equipped with a gutsier engine, optional 6-speed manual transmission, and sporty tuning. The Sentra SR Turbo is slated to reach dealer showrooms this fall.

The Sentra, which is the brand’s third-best-seller in the U.S. market, welcomes the new SR Turbo trim equipped with a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder gasoline turbo engine that delivers 188 horsepower and 177 lb.-ft. of torque—the equivalent of 50% extra horsepower as well as at least 40% more torque than the 1.8-liter Sentra SR powertrain, according to Nissan. An optional 6-speed manual is available beyond the standard fuel-efficient Xtronic continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Handling has been tuned with adjustments to the suspension, larger front disc brakes, and steering. The Sentra SR Turbo rides on 17-in. aluminum alloy wheels and includes a power sliding tilt moonroof and SR Turbo badging. The V-Motion grille that is used on the Altima and Maxima also is used on the Sentra SR Turbo, along with LED lighting and accents plus a rear spoiler. Inside, the SR Turbo features soft-touch materials and heated premium black cloth front seats, sporty silver trim, and a sporty leather-wrapped steering wheel.

For those who want advanced driver-assistance systems, a SR Turbo Premium package is optional and includes blind-spot detection and rear cross-traffic alert. Nissan Connect with smartphone integration and navigation plus optional 5.8-in. touch screen that has an audiophile Bose 8-speaker sound system are available. In addition to the new SR Turbo, the 2017 Sentra is offered in four other trims: S, SV, SR, and SL (Xtronic).
