In Chicago this week, Nissan will give the press a look at two custom models—a Nissan 370Z roadster snowmobile and a Nissan Armada Snow Patrol—prepped for big winter. This year, Nissan built a snow dome in its exhibit space with white carpet and snow flurries every 15 minutes inside McCormick Place to create an adventure with two snow-ready concept vehicles and one current truck model.

Transforming a rear-wheel drive (RWD) Nissan 370Z compact sporty roadster into a “370Zki” powered by 332-horsepower with ski “caterpillar-like” snow tread tracks instead of front wheels and massive snowboard-like ski-snowshoes for rear wheels was no easy feat. Nissan used all stock parts, but had to completely remount the engine and transmission and add a front skid plate to prevent any damage. Lifting the roadster three inches also was required. A special day-glow orange   body wrap decal graphic and yellow tinted ski goggle headlights finished the package, which was actually tested on trails on Wyoming mountain slopes.

A more likely rugged treatment was applied to Nissan’s Armada large SUV so it could become the Nissan Armada Snow Patrol. Again suspension was lifted three inches and the vehicle was outfitted with extreme off-road tires mounted on special 20-in. wheels. A massive front bumper with a 12,000 lb.-capacity winch, roof-mounted light bar and roof rack also were included. This redone SUV concept was wrapped in an electric blue Snow Patrol graphic and the cabin was set up with leather-wrapped front seats.

As an extra perk, the media got to ogle a current Titan XD single cab large pickup truck outfitted with a snowplow at the Chicago Auto Show, which opens to the public on Saturday, Feb. 10 and runs through Monday, Feb. 19.
