New Nissan Titan Gets Cummins Turbodiesel Engine Option

New Nissan Titan Gets Cummins Turbodiesel Engine Option

By Jeff Youngs, August 27, 2013
Nissan's redesigned Titan full-size pickup truck is taking shape, and the automaker is starting to divulge details about the vehicle that will replace the oldest design in the segment. At a recent media event in California, Nissan announced that the next-generation Titan would be offered with a 5.0-liter, turbodiesel V-8 engine supplied by Cummins.

"Truck owners told us there's a demand for the performance and torque of a diesel in a capable truck that doesn't require the jump up to a heavy-duty commercial pickup," said Fred Diaz, divisional vice president, Nissan Sales & Marketing, Service  & Parts, Nissan North America. "There is no question that the new Titan will turn heads, and with the available Cummins 5.0L V8 Turbo Diesel, we expect to win new fans and attract buyers looking for this unique configuration."

Currently, Nissan and Cummins are estimating that the new Titan turbo-diesel will generate more than 300 horsepower and produce about 550 lb.-ft. of torque, providing a combination of competitive towing capability, hauling capacity, and fuel economy. News of the new engine expands upon previous announcements regarding broader powertrain choices and cab/box configurations when the next-generation Titan goes on sale.
